I am losing weight in hospital

Due to osteomyelitis in my foot, I have been in hospital 8 weeks

On admission, I was weighed at 82Kg. This had been my normal weight for over 3 years

At the start of week 3, I was weighed at 78Kg. At week 7 my weight was 72Kg. I have asked the ward staff about losing 10Kg in 8 weeks.

They advised it was probably due to my edema tablets working.

This does not make sense. Most of my medication has not changed for 6 months.

However, due to the foot problem, I have been on antibiotics during the hospital stay.

I have a number medical issues, due to Type 2 diabetes. Issues such as CKD stage 4-5, hypertension, Charcot feet, arthritis.

Any pointers as to where to start finding an answer?

Thanks

Have you been eating normally? I tend to find I don't eat as much when I'm feeling ill or am on antibiotics (they make me feel ill) and the whole hospital food things wouldn't really inspire an appetite in most people.

I do not feel that I do NOT want to eat

Hi. Do you, not the ward staff, think you comparatively have less fluid on board now that might account for it? Are you eating Less?

Food intake is similar to home. The swelling in my legs had reduced before having to go into A&E on the 11th April.[82Kg] I can see my arm muscles have gone flabby. On the 30th I was down to 78. On the 25th May, down to 72Kg.

I have lost upper arm strength. At home, I could transfer from bed to walker or wheelchair unaided. Now need 2 people to assist.

Did anyone suffer from similar issues?

Sounds naughty as hospitals do an amazing job but is weight loss down to the food?
