Summer footwear.....

Summer footwear........ I’m on my feet all day, inside and out, working with 4 and 5 year olds. As well as RA I have had problems with plantar fasciitis after being in very flat pumps last summer (I now have orthotic supports). My ankles seem constantly swollen and felt so hot yesterday, and I’m sure having hot feet makes me feel more exhausted than normal! Any practical suggestions please on where I can find something cool, supportive and vaguely stylish?! (Might be pushing it a bit asking for stylish 😂 )

Some of my shoes come from Hotter which I find very comfortable. I did splash out last year & bought two pairs of ugg sandals & they’re perfect 😊

Canvas high-top sneakers? Probably not stylish in the way you intended... I don't have problems with wearing very flat shoes, but I have sore ankles. I find the support from the high top sneakers to be a bit like the working splints I have form my wrists: allows some movement, but with support. Helps a lot when walking around on uneven surfaces (cobble streets!).

Fit flops I wear them all summer same problems as you and they work a treat

I wear fit flops, a lot more expensive than a normal flipflop but the extra cushioning and support really seems to help

I use sketchers they have a very cushioned sole and come in varying styles. I have 3 or 4 pairs of them and find them very comfy. I also suffer from plantar fasciitis.

I got told off by the Ortharpedic Surgeon about soft soles shoes, he said firm soles with small heels. Plenty of toe room and supported ankle. So I'm in Kent and we have a shop Golden Boot with a fantastic selection from £40 to £1000 shoes. I find Picollino's comfy and fashionable too, Gabor are nice as are Wonders. High heeled boe ones are great. I'd suggest look on their shop webpage as they have real shoe fitters can allter for drift and are so helpful. Just Google THe Golden Boot GAbriels Hill Maidstone. I'm a shoe fetish person with about 40 pairs.!!!

I have flat feet and bunions, so those nice summer sandals tend to be a problem for me. I found out that a good option is the orthopedic insoles (not the standard ones they sell on the pharmacy here in Greece but those they do after measuring your foot's sole). Now I use those with the canvas shoes called "alpargatas" (TOM has a lot of models and different patterns) and I reduced a lot the pain on my feet and lower back.

I’ve found this style works well with orthotics

hotter.com/gb/en/shake-shoe...

Or for a cheaper more casual look these

mountainwarehouse.com/footw...

With both I’ve had to take out the insole which came in them to get the orthotic in comfortably

Hi. I started wearing Sketchers last year. What a godsend, they are so comfortable. I also have plantar and wear supports. I wore hotter shoes before but found them very expensive. Hope you find something you like.

Had plantar fasciitis for over a year and dead bone in my ankle. Physio recommended sketchers, but podiatrist said they are too soft and flexible and to wear running shoes- what a difference they make. Now looking for summer footwear, shall look into all your recommendations. Thanks all

Hi, I wear Wolky sandals, they’re very supportive and you can take out the insole and replace it with your orthotic. They’re not cheap but if you’re wearing them every day they’re well worth it. Come in great colours too. 😊

Summer is always a problem for me with footwear so I am interested in the answers you get! I don’t understand how people are fitting their orthotics into sandals as mine need a heel on the back to keep the insoles in and most sandals don’t have this? I have a lot of Hotter trainer type shoes but find their summer styles flop off my foot. Formal shoes for work or dress up events are a particular nightmare that I haven’t solved yet.

I believe Vionic shoes have in built orthotics so have a look at those.

Fitflops are the best footwear. I could not walk until I found fitflops. Slippers for inside the house. Sandals for the summer are all I live In. They have 20% all the time. Only issue is sizing order your usual above and below. Returns are free so don't worry about how much you order. Hope that helps

I brought some earth spirit sandals last year they have loads of styles and are pretty and stylish and feel amazing. I also work with kids and not allowed to wear open toes so I wear sketchers during the summer months there are canvas ones you can get which are quiet cool.
