I know the weather (in east of England) has changed to a cooler version of early summer, but I need some help to find decent footwear - pretty please 🙏
I have searched on here for any posts that might help - to no avail. My problem isn't just that I need a lightweight shoe/sandal type of footwear with a comfortable and supportive sole...I also need a really soft and non-rubbing upper. I know, I don't need much 😅I can't stand anything ontop of my foot because it's so painful. I also have bunions and fat feet! I'm painting a delightful picture here...it's a good job this isn't a dating platform 😂😂My heels get sore really quickly and I like to keep up with the fashion etc. I think it is impossible to find what I need to be honest. I just need bubble wrap and a bit of sponge 🧽 🤣🤣

You could be talking about me 😂😂 I’ve got a lovely pair of sandals from fitflop last year also from Geox . I love Geox at the moment I find their footwear suit my feet . X
Fit flops do a great slider and they support my feet. Geox are lovely and comfortable I like a bit of a heal . I got a neutral espadrille type . Can’t remember the name material lovely and good support. I also got a pair of white geox trainers ( so fashionable with dresses right now thank god) I got them cheap on Amazon. Live in them my orthotics fit lovely.
Know what you mean about new feet . Didn’t appreciate that I could just walk when I wanted to it just didn’t require thinking or effort.
Have a look at Gabor but get referred to a surgeon too. My foot was straitened and bony bits removed, toes done and plates in. Didn't hurt at all just had to be in plaster then one of those blue boots for about 3 months. And normal foot that bends and I can wear normal shoes and boots. It was done on the NHS about 4 years ago. Other shoe companies could be Hotter, or Pikolonos. But I was told to avoid Sketchers as they might be comfortable in the short term but offer no support so can make things a lot worse. It might not be the same for everyone but I also find a small heel helps and Wonders are really good too.If you're in the South East a shop called the Golden Boot in Maidstone does old fashioned fitting for all sorts of problems. Not always the cheapest but great selection and they do stretch and do built up shoes too. I hope you get something soon personally if its hot I live in Gabor flip flops in red leather. xx
Ones with a toe post so google Gabor with a toe post it does come with a lot. They come in all colours and are a popular line. It's my second pair as I left my silver worn out ones in Cypress two years ago. x
My experience is podiatrist ‘makes’ me wear insoles at all times - in slippers too (which I always used to avoid like the plague) - and criticised trainers that weren’t fully supportive - so don’t expect too much sandal advice if yours is anything like mine!In her defence - my feet might get a bit too hot, and definitely not ladylike or stylish, but they hurt a lot less!
Did you look at Vionics range of flip flops. I think Simply Feet have them at 25% off this weekend. They even have some wide fitting ones. I love all the Vionics range but that website has some other great brands for those of us with dodgy feet.
Unless there is a heel of two inches I’m really struggling and I find some shoes which have arch support and comfort under sole lack the height I need. If my heel drops down due to not enough support my ankle and knee start to play up. 😑
I could never find anything from there as they were all too narrow (I’ve an E foot and a C foot width at the mo!) and I can’t wear anything flat as It stretched my Achilles and back of knee and hamstring, I’m a real problem with my heels! 🤨
I haven’t been able to wear flip flops in years, but I so miss them. In summer, I wear my Sketchers (slip on shoes not sandals) or Crocs. Sketchers does have some sandals with arch supports.
I prefer the ones that have a clear built up sole. My favourite are Tirra, I have them in three colours and suede! They are very supportive but also soft. They also have good adjustment in the straps for fat feet days, no back of the heel adjustment though.. They go well with dresses and shorts. After trying mine my mum became a convert and she now has two pairs too! I also have some of their original walking sandles, I bought my first pair in the US in the 1990's before they were on sale in the UK (and before RA). These have the best soles and the most adjustments, these adjust at the back of the heel as well as over the toes and ankles. They still sell this style and you now don't have to be in the US to get them! I have Elzada, whilst still comfortable I cannot walk as long in them as the sole is less built up and they are not adjustable. I use these for evenings as they are lighter looking and prettier. Hope this helps.
I have been using Hotter for a number of years and also Sketchers. . But I have just bought 2 pairs of sandals from Pavers. They have velcro fastening, a 2 cm heel and are very light on the foot.they also have an arch support A few years ago I had a bunion operation done and it went wrong. So now, none of my toes on my right foot bend at all. I have a very large bunion on my left foot, but I'm not having surgery on that one. even if I grew another toe. I also have hammer toes on both feet. But these sandals are so comfortable. If you don't like them, you can always send them back. I can't wear flip flops because they have no support. So I hope these Pavers prove to be as good as they were when I 1st bought them. 😊🌈
I had my left foot done and it solved the problem and now my toe works like it should. Unfortunately RA felled me before I could get the right foot done ...
Yes I can if I wait till my recent Rituximab infusion is out of my system. I had been putting it off because RA pain and mobility issues were a more serious problem and getting the RA under control was top priority.
Yes, sometimes you can. It depends on how bad your Rheumatoid is ,and what type of medication you're on.It all takes time. But don't rush into anything. 🤔👍
Hi there, Really think about it before you go for surgery on your bunion. It's very painful, after you've had it done. But the trouble is that there's no guarantee that it's gonna be better after having it done..Because of what happened when I had a done I was in bed for 6 months. My right leg looked like a huge tin of corned beef. I know it works for some people, but it sure as hell didn't work for me. My other bunion is staying where it is. It gets painful sometimes, but not like my other food is.
There are a lot of sandals this year with Velcro fastening across the front & the heel of the foot….so you can decide how loose/tight they are….& adjust them during the day.Vionic have a couple of styles.
I live in Skechers these days. I've just bought 2 pairs of their 'slider' style sandals and they are so comfortable and light I don't know I've got them on . The footbed is memory foam and is so comfortable and squishy. Despite there only being one broad band across the front , I can walk ok in them . It's also adjustable with Velcro. The added bonus is they're machine washable 😁
I also recommend Vionics, after shielding for 12 months I was due to return to work but was unable to wear my normal shoes due to foot pain. I ordered a pair of Vionics to try and they're so comfortable and really supportive, I now have a couple of pairs of there flip flops as well. Yes they are expensive but there's a sale on at the moment, but I loved the fact that you can wear them for 30 days and return them if you're not happy. I did return one pair and it was so easy, I took it to a local petrol station which is a collection/drop of point one Sunday morning and had an email the same afternoon to say my refund had been processed.
If you look for sandals that are adjustable across the toe, instep and at the ankle you can hardly go wrong. They all have the arch support and fully contoured foot bed. If you order online you can return them if you don’t like them.
Pink sandal.and grey one too.they fo it in black.so light uou don't know wearing. Qvc was a special so about 35 but 50 in sketchers. Everything stretches. Nothing rubs.thry slip on easily.
There is a UK company that do shoes for feet with bunions, might be worth a look. They’re called calla shoes. There’s also Sole Bliss too, suitable for wide fit/bunions x
I love my Birkenstock’s. There are lots of different types of uppers, depending on what style is most comfortable for you. It’s worth trying them on before you buy as you might need a size smaller than your normal shoes.
I can’t live without my Skechers!! I wear lace ups so that I can have a bit more support. Leather ones in winter and textile uppers for summer. Good luck in your quest!! X
I’ve got several pairs of fit flops, also some Pavers sandals, some from Reiker; this years purchases are a couple of pairs of sandals from Earth Spirit. My feet constantly seem to change - footwear that’s comfy one day, is the exact opposite the next 🤷♀️🤷♀️. The ones from Earth Spirit have adjustable Velcro straps, and are currently very comfy
I too have bunions, bunionettes, wide feet and hammer toes🥳🥳. I have 3 pairs of Sketchers which are really lovely and comfy and for a sandal I have a couple of pairs of Keen sandals which are lovely and comfy as well. My feet are so hideous that I have to cover them up so Sketchers and Keen suit me perfectly. Hope that you find something nice and comfy as well. Xx
I can relate. I was born with slight hammer toes that are getting worse, and my wonderful Sketchers cover them up. I don't let people see my feet in public anymore.
I'm finding that anything over the top of my feet is sooo painful just now - I just can't bare it! Unfortunately, I have to wear something and so bending my foot brings excruciating pain.
HOKA flipflop/sliders are really comfy. designed for long distance runners recovery. I wear them all the time and have several pairs. Made of really soft rubber and very very light. I have a high instep and lumps and bumps sticking out my feet. Sketches and crocks dont even come close to the Hoka in my opinion. I had broken tarsels in my feet from running while discovering i had RA. My feet were knackered couldnt wear anything except the HOKA slider and i tried sliders crocs etc. There a little expensive but well worth the money. They come in different colours. I have the two tone blue and black pairs but i believe they also do pink and cream. There amazing for foot relief and never get foot fatigue when wearing them. Best thing since sliced bread as they say 😀
Just a couple of suggestions to put into the mix: Clarks have picked themselves up & have several styles of very soft leather +with removable insoles. Ditto Ecco. And I actually have heard some good reports of Cosyfeet. Good luck. My feet have several dressings at present & just when they are healing, the bones have decided to hurt! We can't complain of lack of variety!
