Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are all having a good day.
I have what might seem an odd question, does anyone suffer from extremely painful buttocks? I find I am not able to bend, straighten up without a really horrible aching pain. I have had this for a few years. The docs don't seem unduly bothered but it is affecting everyday life. I have had sero positive RA for around 24 ish years. I know my neck is now fusing and have had several joint replacements but this just won't go away. Does anyone else have this problem?

Thank you. I have suggested to Rheumy that my hips are probably getting worse but she says it wouldn't cause that kind of pain although hasn't suggested what might be the cause!
I still think it's my hips too. I suppose time will tell. Hope your pain eases.
Yes, same, one side only, had it couple of years, again rheumatology din't seem bothered but i suppose drugs treat all joints. Did have flare in other side for week but fine now.
My mum has suffered with this for years! She’s had RA since her thirties and is now 82 and she finds the painful bottom the hardest to deal with! She can never sit comfortably and even whilst walking around ( hobbling in her case) the worst pain and discomfort is always in her backside.....
I've had this for a year.It has gotten worseband so I told my rheumy bout it a month ago.She had diagnosed me with piriformis syndrom. Very painful. The piriformis is a muscle running through the hip area becomes Im flamed and swells against the ciatic Uhg!
Will have to ask the Rheumy. Thank you. I did have really bad sciatica for about a year but it's now this that amongst other things is causing the pain. Horrible pain.
Yes my pain is horrible.Mostly getting up and down from chairs, bending, going up/down steps.I've been doing a stretch exercise rheumy suggested but it hasn't helped at all.
Hi there I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis for many years but over the last three or four started developing bursitis, I’m fingers, wrists, elbows etc. totally depressing to be told there are bursas everywhere.
A year ago I got the most awful pain in both hips on the side, couldn’t lay on either side and totally excruciating. A few days later I got excruciating pain on either side of my bottom where I sit. Now I’m not a thin woman more curvy but I could point exactly to the spots where the pain was coming from.
I saw my gp who sent me for ultrasounds and they confirmed the diagnosis. I was horrified.
So I went home and looked in line to see where the bursas are in the hips and pelvis. There the spots were. Maybe you can do the same.
I saw my rheumatologist two weeks later and explained it to him and he kindly gave me cortisone shots in both hips but I could not bring myself to show him the two so close to my bottom so he put me on a course of prednisolone.
Just when I think thank god, that’s the worst pain and it’s over, another one rears up
I guess that’s why they call it management. Local heat might help until you can get it checked
Thank you Lesley, it actually helps when others have the same problem, you begin to imagine you are just making it up! I see my Rheumy again in a few weeks and am going to have a look online to see what I can find. Hopefully then she will take me seriously. Hope you feel better soon. Thank you
No problems We are all learning. It helps to ask, I think we all worry about sounding crazy or unbelievable. I found out last year I’ve started getting cataracts. I didn’t know that was part of RA either. Still lots to learn. But at least we can support each other and say hey we hear you, x
