I’m going back to school.

The state is going to be helping integrate me back into going to school as a count of I have no friends or and social life whatsoever. (Plus education is apparently important....) I’ve been doing tons of research on the hypermobility and found out all this time teachers and schools should’ve been making accommodations for me like different desks or a safe private place to rest when I am fatigued and in pain. I also should’ve had an option for someone to write my notes for me! Do you know how bad I am at taking notes? I probably could’ve been passing my classes all this time! Lol.

I’m not fully happy about it tbh. The doctor is making me. And these days in America they wrote normal notes because the person that normally would is a teachers assistant and they are there to learn how to be a teacher. Plus if there isn’t one the teacher is apparently supposed to help me by giving me a lesson plan sheet with some notes or a fill in the blank sheet to help me study.

Thank you. Hopefully I’ll do much better this time around. It’s gonna be weird being the oldest in my class seeing as I’m being held back technically.

Yes, it may feel weird to be the oldest in your class, but think of it as you being more experienced of the real world. Your teenage years need to be carefree & full of fun....and yes....learning lol. The world is yours for the taking. You deserve it.

Well done. As Cherub mentions, a new life & many new friends await you.

Hope it all goes well, it may be daunting, but persevere. Any help that's available within the school, take it.

Well I think that's great, even if you may not be so sure at the mo! You need to mix with people closer to your age too, it's like a rite of passage. You've missed out on so much & qualifications may not be the be all & end all nowadays but something is better than nothing right?

My niece has JIA, she's grown now with children of her own but when she was at school they provided a laptop for her to take notes on & accepted typed work. Is this a possibility for you do think, or would you prefer someone taking notes for you? Make sure that they make the accommodations for you, it'll make things easier for you.

Good luck & I hope you make lots of new friends or at least a one close one. x

I would prefer someone taking notes for me seeing as I’m not really good at notes and research says typing notes isn’t very efficient because your typing word for word but not really processing what your typing and hearing

It’s great that you are getting back into education. There are computer programmes where you talk into the computer and it writes for you which you might find helps. There are so many resources around now( I’m a learning support teacher) just make sure your parents and you make your needs clear and your learning support department souls support you. Good luck

Actually when we go in to get me registered they will have to have an occupational therapist there to help explain my needs. So at least they’ll have to take us seriously about it

That is really great. Make sure you are really clear about your needs. You know your limitations better than anyone. It is worth making some notes beforehand so that you remember everything. I’m sure everyone wants you to succeed. Good luck and keep us posted. Sue
