The longest nerve in the body (scroll to diagram and info on stimulation this nerve).

I first heard of this earlier this year.

Sharing as it could help many.

Requires surgery and a 14 day post-op recovery period!

in reply toMatilda7

Yes. But just exercising the nerve by deep diaphragm breathing, very slow exhaling, will be of benefit without surgery.

Surgery and implant sounds far less expensive than forever DMARDs and unpredictable health due to chronic, progressive disease.

I feel that the vagus is an important player but not necessarily a cure on its own.

I would be interested to know what others feel about it too.

It's been on the horizon for a while.....

Here's hoping that it will turn into something as sounds like a positive direction...

Dr. Kevin Tracey is a leader in research for the Vagus Nerve stimulator. Still a few years away for RA...but it is a start

Thanks Cherub198889!

Good links. 🙂

There is a non invasive VNS device made by a company called Electrocore. You hold the device against your neck and it is not an implanted device. was meant to be trialling this (for another condition) and was told I was a good candidate due to also having RA. Sadly, the consultant who led on this has now left and my new consultant said it was no longer an option. I have an appt in 3 weeks and plan to ask again.

Let us know what happens.. sounds intriguing.

Might also take 42 days to show any benefits, like the implant.

Thanks, crashdoll 🙂

Many, many thanks, Charisma7aj. 🙏 Much appreciated. 😌

If this interests you at all, as supplemental information, Wim Hof ('The Iceman' ❄️ 👤) does this (stimulates ⚡️ vagus nerve 〰 ) via breathing 🗣💨 & cold temperature ❄️ 🌡 🚿 techniques.

Thank you so much for posting this. I work with people who’ve experienced significant trauma in their lives and see very clearly in these severe cases how the paravagal nerve is implicated - for all of us. I fear the implant may be a way off however, not least of which because it’s not in the interests of drug companies. In the meantime meditation, gardening, music and connection with others are all free and soothe our bodies as well as our souls. Wishing everyone well. E x

Off topic but may be of interest to you, Entero, since you're working with trauma survivors: Healing Power of Resilience, Optimism, & Hope: Moving Forward from Trauma, PTSD, Physical & Psychological Abuse & Illness — Dave Pelzer: healthunlocked.com/nras/pos... (You may already be well aware of the information/ techniques, . . . Merely noting in case something surfaces of use.) 🙏 🍀 🌺 🌞

in reply toKai--

I know that was meant for Entero but Dave Pelzer’s three books which are his biography of his own extremely traumatic childhood are very moving.

Not read his other stuff yet...
