Hi, anybody else hurting like crazy at the moment? I dread getting out of bed. Does anybody else have absolutely killer knees - they're so bad at the moment I can hardly walk. And does anybody else have tennis elbow? Does RA affect knee and elbow joints as well? So far I've had it in my feet, ankles and hands but wasn't sure if knees and elbows are affected or whether it's just general wear and tear. Also, I'm trying to get PIP. I'd really appreciate it if anybody has any tips on this as I've heard it's practically impossible to get it. Unfortunately, I've had to go down to part-time hours because of the pain and I'm really struggling financially. Thanks and love to all xx
Knee and elbow pain: Hi, anybody else hurting like... - NRAS
Knee and elbow pain
As far as PIP is concerned, when you fill the forms in, tell them how it is on your worst days. Be specific, and you can ask for a home assessment if you would find it difficult to get to their local office. Include details of what you need to help you (special equipment such as splints etc) whether you have them or not. I'm waiting to be assessed, at home, Sunday at 8AM! I have been on DLA for years, but now I'm over 65 they are taking me off it, and told me to apply for PIP. All the best. xxx
Thanks for the info. Yes, I heard that DLA had changed to PIP. Sunday at 8am?? Good grief! Good luck anyhow xx
Elbows, knees, shoulders, ankles..... any synovial joint and the RA can munch away at it. But sounds like your urs isn't well controlled right now - have you got a rheumy appointment soon?
HI Glynisdyson,
As helixhelix says above, RA can affect any joint in your body but only really your rheumatologist can say if it's the RA in a particular joint or of it's osteoarthritis. Do get in touch with your rheumatology team if you feel your current medication isn't controlling your RA.
We have a guide to PIP which you may find helpful with your application and there are lots of useful numbers in the back as well. You can download it here: nras.org.uk/publications/ho... or request a copy by post free of charge.
Kind regards

Ha - so the pain in my knees and elbows has driven me mad for 12 months. I've now been told neither is down to RA but fluid on both knees and tennis elbow in both elbows.
I recently had MRI on my knees and Rhuemy said it's RA and upped my MTX. Previously it's been my hands, feet, elbows etc. She thought it had slowed and was hoping the MRI would show it wasn't RA in my knees. Good and bad days, definitely makes walking uncomfortable.
