Aargh forgot the methotrexate

Hi everyone

Came away on holiday yesterday with a carry on bag like the insides of a pharmacy....and have left the methotrexate at home. Which means that I will be over a week late by the time I get to take it. Will this be a problem?! I'm doing pretty Well at the moment and don't want to mess it up. Plus I was hoping to drop another half a mg of pred this week. (Very very long very very slow taper) can I still do that?

One missed dose will not make a difference ( in my experience) but I would continue with normal dose of pred . If still unsure , maybe take an anti inflammatory such as Naproxen .

Rheumatology always used to say I could miss a dose when I had flu etc .

I am sure you will be fine .

But if you are at all worried go & see a doctor 😀

I miss a week now when I go on holiday, and swap it for a glass of wine! Doesn't seem to make any difference, but agree with MAGHS perhaps don't also drop the prend.

It happened to me and I was away for 4 weeks. Fortunately the weather was not too warm or too cold and I made sure I took all my others. I wouldn't drop the dose if prednisilone if I were you. Good luck

A week shouldn't make any difference, symptoms shouldn't creep in that quickly. If it was me (& I'm also on a very long & slow taper, 0.5mg at a time) I'd remain on your current dose of pred until you return home them you can restart your taper, & your MTX.

Hi Bon, Freud would dispute the fact that you “forgot” your Mtx and I’m with him on this one 😀 Give yourself a proper week off thinking about everything - including reducing the pred- and kick back and relax. God knows you deserve it. xxx

In some countries you can get methotrexate without a prescription. I get it in Spain and Lanzarote without one - I just explain that I have RA.

Alternatively if your pharmacy holds a six month prescription for you, maybe you could you contact them and get them to fax or email the prescription to you or directly to the pharmacy closest to where you're staying.

At worst, I don't think missing a week is too bad given that when I'm on antibiotics I'm always told not to take my methotrexate. So one week missed, although not ideal, should not be disastrous.
