If you take your dose all in one go on one day each week & it's 3 hours past that time you can still take your dose. It's not imperative you take your dose at exactly the same time of day, just as long as you only take the one dose each week.

Friday was the day I took my mtx. I was told I could take it at anytime on Friday. I usually took it Friday morning, but if I was going out for dinner, I would take it at night...So as long as you take it on the same day each week, you are fine.

Are you sure; I have been told that I should never make it late not even 15 sec. late !!!!

I did that at first, and let it rule my life. Eventually I asked another rheumatologist who said that anytime within the 24 hours of that day was fine!

Your rheumy wants you to pick a day & time to take mtx, so that you don't take it on a friday one week and then take it on the wednesday the next week.

Taking it less than 7 days inbetween doses can harm your liver and put your life in jeporady. He wants you to take it at least 7 days apart. So if your mtx day is friday, then you have 24 hours to take it. If you forget to take it on Friday, then take it on Saturday. You just have to move your mtx day from friday to Saturday. Does that make sence? You CAN move your mtx day one day Forewards. You should NEVER move it one day backwards. Taking it a day earlier is dangerous. Taking it one day later is OK, you just have to move your mtx day one day forewards.

I wouldn't lie to you alghamdmanal. We are all in this together.

Hugs to you

Sue

Dear

I hope you did not misunderstand me; I did not mean saying that you are a lier!!!!; so sorry for not understanding my point; my rheumy does not explain any thing to me and gets so angry if asking any questions, I learned most of the things around RA from this appreciated app, websites, and couple of my friends who visits somewhat better rheumy than the one I go to. And they are the ones told me about that info. , but I do trust your Rheumy guys more. Thank you for explaining the idea of how Methotrexate is supposed to be taken. You have left a lot of burden on my shoulder😅 again, please accept my apology; I did not know that you will get it that way 🌺

Oh hun, no apology needed. I was just being "friendly" when I said I wouldn't lie to you :) Sorry for the misunderstanding.

As for rheumies getting angry for asking questions, time to find a new rheumy. This disease is devistating to us....not to them.... I remember feeling "guilty" for not being in remission with my first rheumy. My rheumy would forcefully ask " Why do you have more swellings and pain?" Oh how guilty I felt for not being in remission....I thought "how could I do this to him?"

After 2 years of feeling guilty, I gave my head a shake and found a new rheumie. My attitude is " My rheumy works for me....not the other way around. " It took me 3 rheumies to find the right one who works with me.

Having said that, it's not always my way or the highway. If I suggest something to my rheumy he just says " Really Sue? Do you want to risk your health by doing it your way?" I just love the way he talks to me when I think I know what is right. He sets me straight.

Your relationship with your rheumatologist is very important. Open communication with your rheumy is as important as your relationship with your wife/husband.

hugs to you

Sue

Hi I forgot to take mine on Tuesday night so just took it on the Wednsday night instead and will change it to that day instead, so I'm not taking it earlier than seven days next week, I've done that a couple off times now so I've put a reminder on my phone so I won't forget again brainfog just another side effect we have to deal with

I have taken it up to 24 hrs late with no ill effects and resumed taking it on my regular day. If I have forgotten to take it for a longer period of time I would change the day I take it to the day I remembered to take it. I have been on it for well over 10 years and these lapses do happene occasionally when I am feeling well.

My doctor said to take it whenever I remember. However if that was more than 24 hours late, he suggested I make that my new MTX day & continue weekly from that new day.

I started mtx on Thursday and I am now taking it on Sunday. In between, I continue to forget a few times hence I took it on Friday, then Saturday and now Sunday. Yes, as Hidden said, you should not take it a day earlier but if you forget, you take it as soon as you remember it. This is what my rheumy told me too when I forgot to take it.
