BONE PAIN GONE IN 20 minute surgery!

Hi Guys- I have hesitated about writing about my experience because it’s just miraculous! If anyone remembers me, I was diagnosed with all the arthritises and took many of the meds but my symptoms were never quite typical. I had all the pain, but my joints were not red and swollen etc.

Well I went to a “wellness” doc who tests for everything imagineable. For instance I do not have the Alzheimer’s gene, which is good to know, right? Well he said my “PTH” was high and I most likely had a PARATHYROID TUMOR. I asked what I could do about that but they do not “solve” problems, they merely point them out (!?). So I spent months researching this tumor and my hubby made me wait to see an endocrinologist who was not very informed about the (PARA) thyroid. And he passed me on to an ear, nose and throat doc., who said that yes, I most likely have a tumor and he could “fish around” for it if I like. Wow. Meanwhile, I had discovered a place in Tampa FLA, where the “minimally invasive”, ( 20 minute) parathyroid surgery was invented. Usually high calcium levels are also apparent with a high PTH ( parathyroid hormone output), but my calcium levels were high, but not off the charts. After some easy dealings with the NORMAN PARATHYROID CENTER, my husband and I flew to Florida and I had the 20 minute procedure where they found, NOT a tumor, but 2 “bad” lobes of my parathyroid gland which they removed. Here’s the good part: immediately ALL MY BONE PAIN WAS GONE!!! And has stayed gone for 2 months! I know this is not the solution for many sufferers but if it can help even ONE person, it will be worth it. I urge you to google PARAthroid surgery - the parathyroid is COMPLETELY different than the thyroid. Happy to answer any questions ❤️

That sounds like an amazing result for you! The Norman Parathyroid Centre has an extraordinary reputation and I've seen many recommendations for them (long story short, I've had some head-injuries that have led a couple of consultants to ? pituitary/parathyroid symptoms).

I've so relieved for you that you didn't have a tumour and this was something that could be addressed by careful removal of the relevant lobes of the parathyroid.

Was it an overnight resolution of the symptoms (other than bone pain) or did they take a few days to decay away, may I ask?

I am so sorry that I have not responded to anyone! I got a new phone and saw no responses to my post. To answer your question, the bone pain disappeared IMMEDIATELY! The “acid reflux” has improved with time, and fatigue is hanging around for a while. Thanks for asking.

I've been reading up more about hyperparathyroidism because it's something that's been in the back of my mind for one of my siblings who has early osteoporosis (discovered after a 'low' impact fall fractured both wrists/radials) and recently started medication for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. There is grumbling bone pain and joint pain that isn't a typical arthritis.

No kidney stones however - did you have stones, may I ask?

I'm checking through obvious stuff because despite all of the attention re: osteoporosis it's not obvious that my sibling had a PTH assessment, never mind a repeated series of vitamin D + serum calcium + PTH to compare.

I’m so sorry I changed phones and didn’t see any responses to my post. No, I had no stones. There was nothing to do with anything but that little butterfly-shaped parathyroid gland. It was truly amazing! Just a high PTH output was the only sign. Usually high calcium ( 10 or above ) goes along as a symptom , but I didn’t even have that. That osteoporosis is a sign of something going on in this area though.

Wow 8080, what a miraculous out come, I’m absolutely delighted for you. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, it was along way to go & you don’t know the outcome until it’s done, but it paid off in your case, fantastic, it’s clear you did thorough research, a really good positive story, US are so on this, ie AD, inflammation etc. I’m in the process of seeing a functional Medicine practitioner which I’m delighted lives in my locality & feeling extremely positive how it’s going. Thank you again, long may your pain free days continue, great news..
