Hamlet is basically contemplating suicide on and off throughout his soliloquies, so might I without chocolate, fudge, ice cream, crisps, butter, cheese and cream, roast beef, lamb and suasages. xxx

I'm Celiac and just watched my husband scoff a large apple danish so not in a good mood. lol

Not going to add more but I hope the NRAS are keeping track of these type of posts and will in due course post the offical and informed viewpoint.

I just want to quickly say - it's always worth it to venture into different diets to find what helps your RA. Some people experience "remission" on these diets, granted for how long I'm not sure and neither are they, but I've heard lots of success stories. I've had decent luck on a dairy free paleo diet but it was very hard to stick with. That's my own lack of self control though :p - some people do better on a vegan diet such as the one Clint Paddison pioneered. Some people prefer paleo like the autoimmune protocol diet or Dr. Terry Wahls diet protocol. It's all worth a try in my honest opinion.

That being said, even Terry Wahls doesn't agree with discontinuing meds right off the bat. I think that should be ventured into slowly and very carefully. Even a lot of people on the AIP diet still take meds, but find they need less and their symptoms are more under control on the diet.

The problem with all these diet anecdotes is that people who failed on diets generally do not contribute to the discussion. I would strongly recommend NOT doing any wild or "strict" diet but to use a Mediterranean style diet. It is easy enough to follow, healthy for all, and generally consistent with the ideas behind the weirder diets.

Common sense advice Don. I also follow a Mediterranean diet, simple, fresh, good food, you won't go far wrong that! Contrary to what many report though I can eat the nightshade family, not much I can't eat except for red shellfish which I've developed an intolerance to unfortunately.

Just adding my 2 cents worth. People who claim diet "cured" their RA might not of had RA in the first place. A RARE number of people might show seropositive RA, but still not have RA. They may have something that mimics RA.

My hubby was diagnosed seropostive RA in 2015. His rheumy still wasn't convinced but put him on hydroxy and then sulfa. My hubby's rheumy still thought "something isn't right here" so he gave my hubby the Jointstat (known in the UK as IdentRA) blood test. This is a new test that accurately diagnose RA. My hubby's jointstat test came back showing no RA.

Anyways his new diagnose is pseudo gout that is contolled by not eating sausages or kubasa. By not eating these processed meats he is drugfree & healthy. I'm sure he has put the sale of processed meat into bankruptcy.

My hubby & I would never inform people that diet cures RA. I mean we have the medical paperwork stating hubby had seropositive RA & photos of him with swollen joints. We now have medical paperwork stating no RA and photos of him being active....so if we were devious people we could make money on a diet on how to cure RA...but alas, we have morals.... tsk ,tsk , shame on these misdiagnosed people selling their "RA diet cure"

Just my 2 cents

The amount of damage I had in the 10 months it took for my GP to refer me to a rheumatologist was significant and not reversible. Is it worth the risk of trying daft diets? I have been in remission for more than 5 years with few flairs. Achieved with powerful drugs which I am so lucky work for me. I am gradually reducing some drugs under guidance from rheumy and have lost nearly 9 stone in 2 years following a balanced healthy diet (slimming world). I would never risk more damage. My advice to anyone would be to get the RA under control then slowly try other options.

just a quick note to say I think changing ones diet and cutting out things like sugar, diary, gluten and either changing to a plant based or at least reducing the amount of acidic foods like meat in your diet is great but I would also recommend seeing a functional health dr, Chinese herbalist etc that can help balance out your body and if at one point you are ok to come off the meds they will help you do that in a safe manor. Good luck with everything.

I have certainly found going off grains and dairy helped but am not fanatical about it. eg on a Rhone cruise ate these and knew it after only 5 days so am home a balancing it out now. Long live buffalo mozarella , avocados and bombay mix, 90+% dark choc - my treats!. Missed my greens tho [lettuce, fine beans, sprouts etc] , Gave up bananas [mucus makers] for higher vit C of avocados. I never eat pig in any form but love fish [ and salt beef when I weaken]. Hope this helps. I also wter down red / rose wine - was told to avoid white and cava[ v hard, that]. Down to half dose of SSZ now, hope this helps ps no probs 4me re nightshade veg, but dumped plastics and nonstick pans. see my earlier post for more info x
