Hi all again, I've been on lansoprazole for 8 days and I've still got acid symptoms. I'm so fed up now, nothing seems to be working and not sure what to do!! Worried might be causing damage or might have to stop hydroxychloroqine!! Feels like everything is going wrong since being diagnosed 4 months ago, all I do is moan about something so think my family must be fed up too!! Trying to stay strong and positive but it's a struggle, feels like I'm doing everything wrong!! Sorry for the moan 😐

Hi Sue, from one Sue to another. I know how you must feel as I am sure a lot of people on this forum do. I am really fed up too. I am on medication that causes reflux and it is nasty. I am hoping to start on a new biologics infusions then injections. The injections I am on have stopped working so I am becoming more impatient waiting for the new injections. I received several responses from various people mostly positive saying they have gone into remission and they can now enjoy life. I was on mtx and hydroxy plus many more and they all had side effects. Hope you have a good Rheumatologist that listens to you.

Good luck, take care, Sue

Thanks for reply, I have got my second appointment in 2 weeks so I will see what he says. I also think I will go back to gp, just feels like nothing is going right and you can't move forward always feels backwards!!

Hi - sorry to hear you're feeling uncomfortable. And please don't apologise for moaning; that's what we're here for 😊. If it were me, I'd go back to my GP and see what they'd say. They might suggest that you take more; they might change it to a different type of PPI; they might change it for a different med, or they might add a different med in the meantime before as a pit-stop. If nothing else, you'd be taking some medical advice which is what I feel you need - best of luck 🀞

Thank you, I will go back because I don't want to feel like this anymore. I feel I have put up with it for too long and it's getting me really down!

So sorry to hear acid is really is very painful. I found that some antacids don't help some people and for me the only one i coulduse effectively after trying many was Rabeprazole. Dr's are not kennels to prescribe as it is expensive. I also take Gaviscon advance which is prescribable. However after many years have had a flare and am taking in addition to these Ranitidine. Do persevere by going back to Dr and asking for alternative. Some medicines work for some buy not for others. Pam

It's a long slow process finding the rightEdstaston. I am still struggling after 18 months due to drug allergies. Ask your doctor to try Omeprazol also I have gluten free porridge every morning with dairy free milk. Seems to help a lot. Good luck with your next appointment.

Hi Kibeth, I just started having acid issues too. Here are the things I do to lessen the pain:

I take the lansop first thing when i wake up with a glass of water

i take a 150mg ranitadine at night before i go to bed, elevate your pillow at night. You can take 2 per day

I drink a cup of Yogi antioxidant green tea with honey first thing in the morning

i eat greek yogurt with tart cherries and honey for breakfast, taking meds halfway through

i only drink dark french roast coffee after i eat, papanicholas works best

i avoid acidy foods and drinks including red wine

I hope this helps! I do think the lansop takes 2 weeks to work so maybe stick with it and switch if it doesn't improve. Take care!

Hi Sue, I had oesophagitis and it can take a few weeks for the PPIs to work as you have to give it time to heal. Good luck xXx

Sorry to hear you're still having acid trouble Sue. It must be making you feel so miserable. If it was me I'd ask your GP if he will change your prescription for HCQ to the one Zentiva makes, that is if you're still prescribed Quinoric. The Zentiva one is more often than not better tolerated for problems like you're experiencing. It used to be called Plaquinel but since Zentiva de-branded it to generic HCQ the product description he needs to specify is

"HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE SULPHATE (ZENTIVA) 200MG FILM COATED", the 'PIP number' (product code) is 1201730.

Another other option is if your lansoprazole dose could be increased, if you're not already on the higher dose. Or, if you're only taking it once daily you could ask if it could be increased so you'd take in 30 mins before your evening meal & take your second HCQ dose with your evening meal. Was there a specific reason your GP prescribed lansoprazole? Would he prescribe a different PPI (omeprazole for example) do you think?

Do you think if none of this is helpful or you just can't face trying your Rheumy would change you to a different DMARD? I know it's only been a couple of months but you can only try.

Thanks, I have asked for zentiva this prescription! The pharmacist gave me Teva last time cause I wanted to get off quinoric! It is feeling slightly better but just hasn't improved quickly enough, I'm probably too impatient πŸ˜€

Aren't we all when we have side effects?! I'd give it til you see your Rheumy & if you still have acid trouble with your new ones see what his thoughts are. Fingers crossed though it eases til then.

It's an old remedy but worth trying maybe.... eating a small handful (4 to 5) almonds, skin on, after eating anything. You've nothing to lose (that is unless you don't like nuts or are allergic!).

Might be an idea to go to see your GP or at the very least the doctor who prescribed the drugs, as it's important to be advised by a professional instead of messing about with your drug regime yourself.

Aloe Vera the drinking gel is very good for any stomach problems and heartburn etc. It's fast acting & contains only good herbals. It has helped me enormously and no side effects other than it not particularly pleasant tasting. The best aloe is from Forever living an aloe Vera company who use only the cleanest and best acting aloe.

Hope it helps you chick the way it helped me. My arthritis is so much easier to live with.
