Hip Pain
At night, if you are on your side, is your top hip painful or the one you are lying on? Might be trochanter bursitis with the night-pain. Speak to your doctor, and/or a physiotherapist.
I think you should look at the cause for the pain first. It could be bursitis or sciatic pain. Get a diagnosis, preferably from a knowledgeable physio or (medical) orthopaedic specialist. If it is nerve root pain, something like amitriptyline may be more suitable for the pain, while you look for suitable physical therapy such as exercise, stretching, osteopathy, Alexander technique, etc.
Your GP should be able to prescribe something to take alongside the co-co's. You are taking those regularly aren't you? If not you could try that first, they work better taken as it states in the Patient Info Leaflet. You could also see if he/she would ok your ami being increased (if it's thought you'd be better increasing it with you already being on it) to help relax & hopefully if your pain is eased by whichever route you'll sleep that bit better.
I do wonder if you have hip or troncanteric bursitis it sounds familiar to what I have periodically. The pain may not feel as though it's the hip if it's become inflamed, mine is on the outside & initially when it flares up I get a sharp pain & the pain increases if I lie on it, of course it's the side I normally sleep on! Hot & cold helps, alternately. Definitely something to mention at your next Rheumy appointment fir him/her to diagnose, take images if necessary & treat .
I've had terrible pain in my left hip, groin and lower abdomen since February. Have had scans and x-rays that show arthritis in the hip and lower back for which there is no real help apart from pain meds as it has not yet reached the surgery stage, and I get to see my physio for a few weeks (really good). The abdominal pain has also been examined with scans and as nothing was found, am having to have a colonoscopy in the near future. Hope you find some relief soon.
