I have HS and I'm taking Humira. I would like to know can I take Humira if I have a cold?
Hi my name is PAM: I have HS and I'm taking Humira. I... - NRAS
Hi my name is PAM
They don't recommend it! It can trigger big complications.
They should have come out to your home and explained all of this when they taught you how to do your first dose?
As with all things only you know how ill you really feel and whether it's a full blown cold or a slight sniffle....
Pam I delayed my injection when I had a cold, for a couple of days, are you new to Humira? A friend also misses his injection. I've never known the proper guidance Humira helpline is usually invaluable in answering questions.
Get better soon xx
Hi Pam,
I'm Legs, hello! I'm not sure what HS is but I do recognise Humira as a biologic. All I can say is I'm on Enbrel and when I get a cold I stop injecting. That is my choice as my RA is well under control, no one has told me to do this.
I think the best thing you could do is ring a pharmacist today and ask them, they are open on a Sunday. Either that or ring your Rheumy nurse and leave a message for them to ring you back. This will be the safest option for you and of course there's always your GP tomorrow.
I do hope, you get over your cold very soon.
Love, Legs x
Hiya, I spoke to GP and Drug Helpline, they say if it's a cold without infection you can take it, if any infection i.e. Throat or chest then do not take it. I usually skip a dose as I think my immune system must be lower the fact I have a cold. Hope this helps ... regards Pam xx
No. Humira impairs your ability to fight off any infection. Hasn't your rheumatologist or the nurse told you this? That's why you shouldn't eat unpasteurized eggs/milk or cheese, eg stilton or other blue-cheese. Harmful Bacteria could be in those.
HTH?
Thanks everyone for the quick reply. I couldn't get in touch with my Humira nurse because it's the weekend. The hotline didn't help much. I'm supposed to take my shot today but with y'all help I decided to skip this one. I had the sniffers on yesterday but now I have a nasty cold.
Hi Pam, and welcome to the board...
Hi Pam! From what I've been told and read about, you should not take any biologic with a cold or flu but you should call your Drs office and ask.
I've been told to continue taking Humira when I have a cold. Even when I was having tests for TB after contact with a TB patient I was told to keep taking it (though to be fair the chances of having TB were slim). Only way is to seek advice from the rheumy team who know you.
