Hi not messaged on here for a while you know what it like to finally see the consultant.... well I'm starting on Sulfasalazine how many started on that an was the side affects as bad? I'm looking forward to loss of appetite 😬 Lol
Just starting medication : Hi not messaged on here for... - NRAS
Just starting medication
It was brilliant for me. No side effects other than Sun sensitivity. Put cream on even in winter if the sun is bright. My Dentist at the time said if I got anymore restricted movement in my jaw I could not have dental work done. The sulpha rectified it . Got a lot of movement back and reduced swelling.
Good luck.
Hi- I've had no side-effects on Sulfasalazine, apart from yellow wee!😊
I had a hard time on it, but this doesn't mean you will. Some folks do really well on it!
Hope it works well for you.
Forgot to say...I caught the sun in seconds! For first time in my life I went brown, however sun is very damaging, and I'm sure I didn't pay this enough heed!
If you are going to a sunny and hot place you need lots of loose clothes which cover you from the sun and find places to sit in the shade. Plenty of fluids too remember. Hope you really feel better and can enjoy your holiday.
So you can't sit in the sun? I love sunbathing... I always start factor 30 then go to factor 15... if the suns out I'm out lazing in the garden
Take it easy in the sun......I was told to avoid it after radiotherapy & then when on some RA drugs.......I asked my rheumatologist & he said it's a "try it & see" situation.
I stocked up on Factor 50 sun creams & headed off to Florida. I traded down to Factor 30 after a few days, & I had no nasty side effects.
I can now sunbathe & get a tan without burning....but that's me.....go slowly & see how you go. But if you have had sun sensivisity in the past there is a 99% chance it won't go away...so stock up on lovely cool floaty cover ups & stay pale & interesting!
I have been on it since September. Worst side effect for me is that some days it makes me throw up and has pretty much taken away my appetite. Neither of which is good when you are trying to gain weight!
My rheumatologist told me it is important to get out in the sun (but not mid-day) without sunscreen. Since starting hydroxychloroquine (another drug with sun sensitivity warnings, but which also depletes vitamin D) a year ago, my vitamin D levels have really dropped.
I've been on Sulfa for six years and never noticed any drastic side effects. From 6 tabs a day down to three now and hopefully off it completely by June this year. All the very best and stay positive.
