Was steam mopping the floors and I suddenly felt like a ripping sensation up my heel- now when walking it feels like there's a razor blade in there .
Hurts!?!?

Ouch. Achilles heel springs to mind. My wife did hers in some years ago, ended up in plaster for a monthπ. Get it checked at Drs or a&e.
Thanks for your response dtech
Would it come on as suddenly as this? It doesn't pain me when sitting, just as soon as I put pressure On it?
Oh yes. Footballers get it a lot, as you may see in the press. It's the tendon at the back of the heel. Apparently it feels like you've been shot! What happens is the tendon over flexes and snaps. So when your foot is flat (resting/sitting) it releases the tension so it feels ok. As soon as you move the fibre bits that have snapped come apart and hence the pain. I only know this cos my wife had it! What they do is put you in a cast with the foot flat so the 'fibres' knit together. That's why it takes so long.
Oh and how did my wife do hers? Dancing to a pop group on Brighton pier on a girly weekend! π. She took her high heels off to dance, which over extended her Achilles.... and snap! Over she went!
Hopefully yours isn't gone, but I would get it checked as if it's untreated it can cause other long lasting damage.
Dancing sounds more fun than mopping floors! Your poor wife. Thank you for the advice , I'll go to a and e in the morning if it's still as painful.
Ok good luck. It wasn't fun for me either. We had planned a touring holiday that summer along the south coast, ending at our son's graduation at Brighton uni. You may remember the year as being the hottest on record in the U.K. So I spent three weeks doing all the driving and pushing my wife around in a wheelchair every dayπ. Luckily pre RA and I was fitter in those days, but boy, it nearly killed meπ
Ouch! Hope you have an ice pack in reach...
If you feel a kind of pop, and excruciating pain, you've done in your Achilles! You need to get that sorted! π³
Hi hector23
It wasn't a pop ad such , felt more like a kind of searing rip?
Ouch!
You'd know if you have ruptured it. Hurts like hell! Can you stand on top toe?
Look after yourself πΈ
Can't stand on my toes. Had operation on them I n July where they were broken and pins inserted to straighten them. Tendon was also cut then reattached . However, 4 of the toes didn't take and remain broken meaning I'll need further surgery.
Never easy , huh?!
Oh, poor you!
I just keep telling myself "it could be worse" -
Then it just keeps getting worseπ
I now need to have both elbows done and my spine Is fused at the bottom and now the neck so rheumatologist said it may be that I will need surgery on spine at Some point too?!
Kinda thinking at that point there'll be nithing left to replace and then I can finally get on with the business of living .
Wishing you a good day
I have it resting in a hot wAter bottle but it does give some comfort . I'm kinda hoping it just sorts itself outπ
Is the Achilles swollen?
An Achilles tear is a serious thing. Do go to casualty and get it checked out if you're in real pain.
Hard to tell if honest as bothe feet are pretty swollen tonight anyway? If I stay off it, it just nips a bit . If I can't walk Without pain in the morning, I'll definitely go And get It seen too,
Thanks for listening .
Hi there. I injured my achilles tendon playing squash many years ago, couldn't walk, searing pain. Doctors at A&E were sure it was ruptured but imaging said otherwise.
Fast forward to my diagnosis of Psoriatic Arthritis and the realisation that I must had the disease way back then for all sorts of reasons including the Achilles saga. PsA is particularly keen on inflaming the Achilles tendon which makes it very vulnerable and it does not have to be ruptured to feel like it is!
More recently I fell and hurt my knee (which is frequently inflamed by PsA) & it was a repeat scenario, surgeons were so sure I'd torn a tendon they ignored the ultrasound evidence that suggested the tendon was intact and were going for surgery. Fortunately I regained movement in the knee on the morning of the operation or I would have had an unnecessary procedure.
Eiram you have AS right? Which is part of the PsA 'family'. Don't ignore the ankle obviously, but do emphasise your diagnosis if you decide to see a doctor.
Thanks for that postle2
Ido have AS and RA too. It actually feels better today, more of an ache as opposed to the searing pain of last night so I think I'll just keep an eye on it and mention it when I see consultant in march.

Until I read Dtech's response, I was going to say that it sounds like psoriatic arthritis. I noted before that you said you have ankylosing spondilitis - psoriatic arthritis comes under this category.
hi eiram50 i bet thats very painfull you poor thing what dtech said good advice get it checked out and keep us posted mary xx
It does sound an Achilles injury. It doesn't sound as though you're ruptured it, if it's no more swollen than your other foot that is? i couldn't get my jeans off so they had to be cut up to the knee but only so far so they had plenty of working space to put the plaster on. I did mine standing on a bin bag full of weeds trying to make room for more. I guess I wasn't central so the bag moved to the left my foot to the right. It was really painful needless to say, no-way-I-could-walk-on-it painful!
It might be an idea to let your GP look at it asap, see if he thinks an x-ray would be adviseable, just to be sure. Meantime keep it up as much as possible & apply cold compresses or if you have one an ice bag. If the swelling's now worse up to A&E with you. I do hope it's not a tear, mine's really my Achilles heel now, never been quite the same.
So many replies, so many choices. How about this: me thinks you have a heel spur. I have one and upon rising from sitting, or stepping the "wrong" way, or simply moving my foot.....It feels like someone hit my heel with a ball bat. NO bruising, no discoloration. Usual pain meds don't touch it. I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO GET IT CHECKED OUT BY YOUR PCP AND/OR PODIATRIST. Keep an accurate diary detailing when it does not hurt and especially what causes pain and on a scale 1-10. Good luck.... if someone already gave you the correct diagnosis and proposed treatment, then my apology for butting in here. As I said, so many replies...I did not read them all.
