I would like to know if using gel ointment of an NSAID has less side effects than using the pills. Please help.

I don't know about you, but I still can't use them due to my asthma.
From what I've heard does have less side effects and also that they have different efficasy on different joints.
Because it doesn't go through the stomach it is less likely to upset your gut if like me you have IBS or any sort of sensitivity.
Anything topical (applied to skin) targets the area it's applied to. Effects are minimal as it does not enter the stomach is not processed by the liver or enter the blood stream.
In theory anyway x
Hi Akhlaq, it probably will have fewer side effects but then it doesn't penetrate deep into the joints from what I understand. When you consider how much you rub in, unless it's your fingers and toe joints it can't get to the part that matters. There shouldn't be any harm in you trying it though unless you're allergic to any of the ingredients it's made up of., you might find it works for you.

Yes it does not penetrate and its effect is only for a while. However tablets that we gulp down are much more effective in reducing the pain. But their side effects are alarming. What to do if not put up with RA. Thanks.
I know Akhlaq it is,a tough one but you have to bear in mind that RA is a very destructive disease and without being alarming, can effect our bodies in ways we don't see. My RA is very aggressive, yours perhaps isn't, therefore the side effects of my drugs are not as bad as the RA uncontrolled.
You also have to remember and have faith in the fact that we are monitored with regular blood tests and if we are being affected by the meds they are changed to a different one.
I'm on biologics and have felt better than I have for many years for me they are wonderful and I thank the day I was put on them. Hurrah for my great Rheumy team!

Have used the gel on my knee and hands. Still be mindful it is absorbed into the body and have to remind myself it's still a medicine at the end of the day . Hope you get relief, as winter time is playing havoc with joints now!
