Contact lenses and RA

Hi everyone I am 18 and since 7 I have JRA and I used 2 years contact lenses.It was good. I didn't live any problem like dry eyes. But I will go to the new ophthalmologist and I decided to take glasses most of the time. But I want to wear contact lenses sometimes too. Is there anybody using contact lens with RA? Anybody has a dry eye?

I've continued to wear contacts. My eyes do get dry sometimes which makes wearing them a bit uncomfortable but it passes and I use drops to sooth them (not medically supplied). If I need to, I revert to my glasses but not often.

I Use daily as they're thinner. I can make them last a week tho with using storage cleaner

Yes it's the hydro ones I use, extra water content.

You can get some with higher water content. I also find dailies better than monthly.

I have RA and I wear contact lenses with no problems - I very very occasionally have what I call a "crispy eye day" which I think is probabally linked to tiredness rather than the RA and then I just wear my glasses for the day and back to contacts the next day.

Hope you get on well with the contacts 😃

Hiya Yesimsevenfold & welcome. I had to give up wearing contact lenses when I was taking hydroxychloroquine. I persevered for some time trying different comfort drops but in the end opted for glasses. I also had to wear sunglasses because of light sensitivity & as I was living in a sunny country at the time that overrode need, I basically couldn't see to drive as I was myopic. My eyesight has changed over the years, I now have age-related presbyopia which is quite normal, so just have reading glasses nowadays.

I'd see your optometrist & take his advice, that's what I did & it think is best. We need to take care of our eyes, especially when at a young age like yourself.

I have worn them for 28 years.They are the hard gas permeable ones.Wear all day til tea time.I have had no problems til recently getting irritation from dry eyes sometimesometim. This is since being on hydroxychlorine. I use eye drops from Boots but now when not going out just wear my glasses.

I've been wearing contact lenses since I was 18 (now 53 so do the maths!). I have developed dry eyes but have drops and use monthly toric lenses with a very high water content. Clemmie
