Have you asked the surgeon what he thinks will be the outcome?

I can only say I had both bunions done .....separately - & I could walk & wear shoes about 3 months after each one....but I don't know what the outcome of fusing your 3 toes would be. These days bunion surgery is not the painful operation it used to be....I only took painkillers for the first few days.

My operations & rehab took about 2 years for everything to settle & now I can wear stylish(flattish) shoes & have no trouble with my feet walking in sensible shoes.( I went down in shoe size)

One word of warning if you do go ahead.......don't try to cram your feet into fashionable shoes before everything is healed.....(I think I wore trainers for at least 6 months.) That leads to permanent troubles.....my surgeon was most insistent about that.

If possible try to speak to somebody who has had the surgery you need.

Good Luck whatever you decide.

Thank you so much! I hear your message loud and clear and I will not try and wear shoes before all the swelling is gone. I appreciate the feedback.

Sincerely,

JoAnn

Hi

Back in the day when I only had osteo arthritis I had fusing of the great toes (arthrodesis I think) They worked /work very well. Took a long time to get over completely and one ended up with screws left in to stabilise it. I think best to give yourself a year to feel pretty good and two years for it to feel completely "normal" No high heels but with good firm soled walking boots I can walk as far as I ever did and I still dance ( RA in hands /wrists slow me down a bit) And although I got discomfort the bad pain went very soon after the op. Good luck
