Foot
Ooh poor you. Have you managed to talk to someone in your Rheumy team yet?

Hi DDJJ - What you are experiencing with your large toe is actually normal for some of us. I had the same exact thing.
Here are a couple of things to be aware of / cautious about: The turning of the large toe MAY cause a boney lump on the top of your foot, right in the area that your shoes tie or fit. If is does, it is extremely painful when walking, and will harden to be there permanently. It cannot be removed (well, it can, but it just grow back according to my orthopod), but if you can get past the pain point, it may be okay. Mine is still there but it no longer hurts. Until you get to that point, it maybe really difficult to find shoes that you can actually wear. I used Crocs for about six months because they were large enough across the top of my foot and caused no additional pain. I got orthotics on the recommendation of my ortho, but they caused me to fall (hard) and hit my head three times in two weeks, so I had to give them up.
Here's hoping whatever regimen you are on works well for you soon. I was able to stop mine before the second toe turned more than about 1/4 to 1/3. Hugs
Cheryl ! I've got the same situation in my foot and it has hurt for 20 years, and I never knew the toe and that slab of "arthritis" ( what podiatrist called it ) across the top of my foot, was connected to the toe curving. Thanks for enlightening me. Mine started with a botched toe joint surgery that mangled my toe and you are right- I can only wear shoes that allow the top of my foot to swell after any walking. But I have started walking, but slowly. It is still painful tho, so I take a couple aspirin before my slow walks. WOW- thanks for that info!
My pleasure 8080 - It was funny because my rheumy looked at it and declared that it was nothing related to RA. But, she sent me to the orthopod to see what he thought. He took some x-rays and said, "of course it is related to your RA". Then we had the talk about the surgery, PT , Orthotics, etc.
BTW - One thing that helped is that he did a cortisone injection directly into the lump (called an exostosis) and OM Goodness did that hurt. But, within a day it stopped hurting and by the time the shot wore off, it had stopped all together.
Another thing that helps when I am going to be walking a lot is to tape it up with some KT Tape. The tape works by motion (it seems to me like maybe some massage action?) and it is immensely helpful. I actually use the tape for knees, wrists, etc. if I am going to be stressing that body part. Just don't put anything on before the tape (like a gel or something for pain) as the tape will stick and can pull off some skin. Best of luck on your walks!
Oh dear it's really swollen painful
Please ring rheumy clinic it needs treating thinking of you❤❤❤
Rang them just said to take my ibuprofen
The whole foot looks swollen, all the way from the ankle. Is the pain all over the foot. Is it hot? Do you have a fever?
