Hello to anyone kind enough to be reading my messages.

Has anyone had a heart attack and had the raft of meds needed following stents? I also have rheumatoid arthritis and have been taken off all meds due to possible interaction with the heart ones.

Seems to me that its not such a good outcome if heart is working but crippled by uncontrolled ra ?

Hi, it seems a bit drastic to me to cut all your ra meds-I'd try to get a drug review asap with your GP/ Rheumy or your pharmacist to look at the possible interactions. I work in cardiology and can reaffirm that post stents you absolutely must must must comply with the cardiac meds especially the ones which prevent the stents closing up but I'm sure there will be a solution, it may even take the cardiologist and the rheumy to discuss your case at a multidisciplinary meeting-they are held frequently and will give the ideal chance for both specialists to reach an agreement on your medication and care. Try to not worry, hope it sorts soon x

Thank you so much for replying. I have next stents in March11 the and see rheumy April 1st. Just wondering if anyone else has same heart meds and still takes rheumy meds , methotrexate at least.

Good luck for next week; definitely ask the cardiologist as he/she will have to see you for consent and post procedure too. Maybe speak to the nursing staff too as they can discuss your meds with the cardiologist as they are your advocates! Hope someone who is in a similar situation can reassure you x

Everyone at the catheter lab was wonderful when they did the first one. I'll definitely ask the nursing staff.

Thank you so much for advice.x

I agree with alicn, your heart meds are the most important but I would ask if your Rheumy & Cardio Surgeon or Consultant would get their heads together on this & work out a treatment plan for you, preferably before your next Rheumy appointment. With RD we're at in the higher risk category of possible heart events so having had one not taking RD meds isn't an option, though some reduce the risk of heart disease it needs defining which aren't contraindicated. Whilst your heart's probably now in better condition than most, more so after your next PCI, it will have scarring so lifestyle will also have a good part to play, for RD too. Do all you can to eat a recommended diet & your heart will thank you.

All the very best for the 11th. x

Thank you so much for replying. I asked the docs when I was re admitted with the ? Drug interaction. I have asked lots of people, it seems that I should ask the people at the catheter lab next Friday for best advice.

But I will also phone rheumy nurse on Monday to ask .

My h had 2 angios & a pressure wire assessment before his CABG & the cath lab team weren't able to advise him on his other specialist meds but hopefully yours will have more idea. Hope it all goes swimmingly.

I don't know if they see patients but if you want I can give you the couple of names of heart specialists that you may want to get in touch with even if these dr's don't see patients I would highly recommend seeing a heart specialist that can tell you what sort of diet that you should start following and do a lot of blood work and other tests that you should prob have done.

I have been learning a lot about heart problems and other health issues recently and from everything that I have learnt it is really important to find a good dr, unfortunately like with anything in life some dr's are better than others and I know for sure that some cardiologists will do tests others wont.

Also I know there is a lot of info about oral health and other deeper issues looking at the Microbiome in Your gut etc. A lot of conventional dr's don't know about a lot of this stuff yet or have not learnt how this can affect our health so this is something you may want to look into.

I am so sorry to hear about your health issues.

Hi, had cardiac arrest in 2010

Had to be shocked back into this world. Have one stent. Dx RA about a year later, on MTX and small dose of preslidisone as well as all the heart drugs. I have never been told to stop anything or that one or other will not mix. So far so good.
