Hip or sciatic nerve whichever it is I'm not sure but I am having terrible trouble walking and if I lose my mobility I am finished
Hi, have you had an X.Ray on your hip? I used to have agonising pain with mine, but most of the pain wasn't in the hip as such, the pain was more in my groin, and I would get locked in a position , such as when trying to stand up and get half way up and stick and had to stand in this weird position having to try and wiggle around to try and unlock it, looking back now I can laugh at it but I had some embarrassing moments I got stuck on the bus once trying to stand up to get off, eventually had to try and hop to the exit and hubby catching me as literally had to fall off the step, had whole bus giggling at me, felt so silly. also got stuck when visiting bank, we had to have a chat with the banker and I couldn't get up when it was over, she had other people getting annoyed waiting to see her , oh boy , still this isn't helping you, just hope it raised a smile, you really need to see a specialist to work out what it is wrong and if you do need an op. go for it life will be so much better and pain free, good lucklet us know how you go. x
Hi, I have sort of hip and buttock pain walking especially. An X-ray of my hips was completely normal and the rheumy said it could be tendon problems. He gave me a cortisone injection which has helped a bit, but I think it's more sciatic or sacro iliac based. You should ask for X-ray or scan to try to get to the bottom of it. There are lots of things that can be done to help before worrying about loss of mobility altogether. Try not to worry, and make sure your factor knows how's ou feel.
Yes I get the locking bum thing too sometimes - it seems to flare up for a few weeks and then settle down so fine again just now but can be horribly embarrassing as Jillab says. I was told by a physio and my rheumy that it's probably wear and tear in my L5 and keep exercising/ moving nothing they could do. I am only 52 this started a few years ago so a bit young to be polaxed when trying to rise from sitting position but I think he's right as my menopause came and went early and I carried very large babies so this could explain achy pelvis and locking bum/thighs I think. My rheumy said RA doesn't usually affect hips or back. I have some OA in my neck too. I'm not sure of your age and stage but I hope you can find a way of accessing some physiotherapy perhaps to give you exercises and massages that will free you up from pain and immobility? Twitchy
I'm 66 had a knee replacement three years ago all good with that but besides RA i have diabetes, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, atrial fibrillation
Oh dear what a gathering of nasties for you to cope with. I still think physio sounds as if it could be your best option to discuss with your GP perhaps? Once they have found the cause through imaging that is. Take care. Xxxxx
You need to find out what the problem is. It may not be as disastrous as you fear. Get an x-ray, and then perhaps further scans if the x-ray doesn't show anything... If it's your hip rather than your sciatic nerve, then a successful hip replacement can give you back your mobility. I was in terrible pain for a couple of years, and got to the point where I could barely walk at all - and because I am young (and had lousy GPs at the time) it took a while before anyone thought to check my hip. I had a replacement last year, and the difference is almost miraculous - that pain just GOES, within days or even hours of surgery! Good luck!
Once you've found out the causes a physio may be able to help. Good exercises building up the muscles.
Drs no longer like to X-ray for back pain as it doesn't show enough of the anatomy for a definitive diagnosis, they prefer MRI. I had one recently, was worried re claustrophobia but was fine. Never opened my eyes and actually could have fallen asleep. You need referred for an MRI to be sure what's causing your pain. If it's like mine pills and certain exercise is helping me. Good luck here's hoping a pain free New Year xx
I'm in this position. Spent Christmas Eve in hospital. I'm on Tramadol, Paracetamol and Diazapam. First x-ray revealed osteoarthritis with cysts of the right hip. In hospital they also gave me morphine, and did 5 more x-rays of hip, spine, and groin. Will ring my GP for results when the Xmas holidays are over/
Not saying this will help you Nanapapa6, but my hip pain, (thought I needed replacement hips) sciatica, Restless legs at night, stiffness getting out of bed and chairs and tailbone pain went almost overnight once on a good safe dose of vitamin D3.
It affected my walking too, I felt like I was starting to walk bow legged. (All gone now)
Doctor said I would have to live with my tailbone pain as there was no cure. ???
Check you don't have a low vitamin D or vitamin D Deficiency, Nanapapa6 as 85% of us have this and do no know it.
Vitamin D is the sunshine vitamin, many do not go out in the hot sun so much and in the winter people complain their aches and pains get worse.
Check out vitamindcouncil for up to date, higher safer doses of vitamin D.
The old vitamin doses were worked out back in the 1930's (apparently.)
Again not saying vitamin D3 will help you, but a good idea to check it off your list.
I'm not allowed in sunlight due to my Meds so I might well be deficient in that vitamin will give it a try, thanks!
Sounds quite likely you might be either low or deficient in vitamin D Nanapapa6, I was told by a skin specialist to keep out of the sun or cover up from head to toe thanks to skin pre cancer spots that have been removed, but by helping one medical problem it has caused another, (Vitamin D deficiency.)
I now go out in the sun, but do not to get sunburned and I have not noticed any new skin cancer spots since being on Vitamin D3.
Vitamin D3 is an anti inflamatory, and helps prevent many illnesses and lately has been found to help prevent some cancers, but do check it all out on the vitamindcouncil
I'm not sure if you're taking something else which stops you but if it's MTX you're on Nanapapa it's not so much not allowed in sunlight but it is listed that it can cause sun sensitivity. I just take care & be sure if I sit out that I apply a good sun lotion. We need as much Vitamin D as poss living in the UK!
Unless you have another reason of course.
, just waiting for an appointment to have hip X-ray, thanks for suggestions, will update results
Scheduled to have a hip replacement sometime in next three months
