Usually after injection there is no pain this time I had to apply Voltaren Gel and put knee brace on to stop the pain. Why so much pain this time? Maybe due to knee already being swollen.

Knee injection
Sometimes you can get a 'steroid flare' after an injection with increased pain before it settles but more worrying there is a small chance of infection - is there more swelling and redness as well? If I have had fluid withdrawn first and then injected the joint can feel strange and painful as it misses the 'cushioning' and I suppose it has to reposition itself and I often need to get the ice pack out. Over the course of one year I had two injections. One by the doctor and the second by the PA. The first one went like a breeze. I was surprised at how I could move my knee but the results were not for long. After about 6 weeks I was in pain again. Around October of 2014, I decided to have one more shot in hopes that it would help me walk around Disney World with less pain but the PA administered the shot and, whatever reason, this one hurt more and I had to ice my knee for two days off and on. Even after those two days I could barely put weight on my knee so consequently I had to use a wheelchair while at Disney. I don't believe I will be having any more shots in my future. I just deal with the pain as best as I can.
