I had Atos and i went to them. Just about to claim my travel though...I guess it depends what you said in your letter bout writing and ease of getting about?
It depends on your condition or sometimes the benefit you have applied for.
Sometimes when they have received a report from your GP and Specialist that can suggest they visit you at home.
Have you adapted your home, sometimes again they may want to see how you get around and manage in your home
Good Luck

I think Capita are going to be doing a lot of the assessments at peoples homes, so yes, it is normal. Atos will do most of theirs in their offices though I think.
I,ve just had mine with capita but i went to their office,i think on their letter it said they would do hoome visits. Please don,t worry they just ask you questions about day to day management,if you think your meds are working and then a quick physical.
It is an assessor who visits you and home visits are quite normal. The assessor writes a report and sends it to the DWP for them to make the decision.
I've copied this from the Benefits & Work website for you -
"Will I have to travel far for my assessment?
That depends on which company does the assessments in your area. If you are in a Capita area then you are very likely to have your assessment in your home. If you are in an Atos area then you will only get a home medical if you can convince Atos that there is a strong medical reason why you cannot attend an assessment centre"
Hope this puts your mind at rest.
Good luck & do let us know how you think it went when you've had it.
