Knee and hip
Hi dee I'm in the same boat as you ive now got to have injection in hip too they won't operate yet coz I'm too young im 50 got to have MRI scan too I know what pain you are in coz I am too let me know how injection goes please x
If the injection into you hip doesn't help the pain and the mri is showing alot of damage insist you need a hip replacement. Saying you are too young is not acceptable for you. I was 32when I had 2 hips replaced and 38 when I had two new knees. You will need the help of your gp to help back your case. Best of luck x
Hi Hun
So sorry you are in so much pain, but hopefully with the wealth of experience care and understanding you get on here we'll get you sorted. First of all I cant understand why they are leaving you 2 weeks until they do the steroid injection,- you need it now. With you suggesting going back to your GP you must have a lot of faith in them. My GP is fantastic, and have had injections in the surgery, so that may be an option. Hope you get sorted soon, just dont wait to do anything the pain will only get worse xx :))
Knee why don't they understand ??? I'm 57 the pain never goes away he said when I saw initially last August he would consider kneecap replacement now he's just said no!!' X
Have you got an understanding GP? It sounds like you need a letter from the GP sent to the surgeon impressing on the need for a knee op. You shouldn't have to fight for an operation when you are in so much pain. Having your gp who can work on your behalf will help. I really feel for you, I couldn't walk before my knees were replaced, the pain was unbearable. I really hope you can find a way forward. x
Knee I think it's because my damage is just behind the kneecap he did originally say when I first saw him that he would consider a kneecap replacement but when I saw him last week he seems to have totally changed his mind and he said no more surgery I went to see gp and told her she's writing a letter to his sec to say that I want an answer as to why he's saying this x
Hi Deejojo,
sorry you are having such problems with your knees and hips. I have put a link below to the page on the NHS website about getting a second opinion If you do decide to get one:

I hope you manage to get some relief from your pain soon.

Thank u soooo fed up of consultants they just don't understand x
Four years ago I saw a really rude consultant who didnt even examine my knees and just said "you are too fat for me to do anything go and see your GP to ask for referral to a dietician". I tried to explain that being immobile didnt help and that I had already seen a dietician but he didnt want to know. A year and half later and more weight piled on I saw another consultant who said my knees were really bad and needed both replacing but because of my age they couldnt do it. I have osteroarthritis in both knees. I now also have achilles ruptures, RD, fibromyalgia and sjorgens and have found losing weight impossible even with dietician help who eventually give up on me and as I cannot walk without crutches the only exercise I get is when I go to the hydro pool. My Rheumy saw my xrays of 2 years ago and said that they were some of the worse knee deterioration she has seen. If I had had my knees replaced 4 years ago I would have been able to move about more and then maybe wouldnt have lost my job. I believe my weight problem is down to undiagnosed thyroid problem since having hysterectomy years ago. I know about knee pain it keeps me awake every night and stops me from living a normal life. Hope you find an answer soon. Gentle hugs Joolz.x
Aww thank u sooo much this site is soooo helpful xx
What was his reasoning for refusing an op Denise? Most unfair without good reason given you still have pain & there's already history I would think & without giving a reason must be questioned. I'd ask your GP to contact him if he didn't explain why to you & if his answer is flaky seek a second opinion, you should have your GP on side for this. x
He didn't give a reason just said that he would get physios to work on me I went back to see my gp she is writing a letter to his secretary so I can have a longer discussion on my next appointment I've no idea why he changed his mind but thank you for your nice reply xx
