Humira and platelet levels

Has anyone that is on Humira noticed a drop in platelet levels? I started Humira in June. My platelet level had been comfortably in the normal range--right around 250. One month after starting injections, I dropped to 152--barely above normal. Anxious for my next blood test now.

It is very important to check all level on your next blood test, make sure you get a copy and "google" for the results. If there are abnormalities contact your GP/RA team. You may need to stop the Humira. Particularly if you have "ichy" lower legs.

I have direct experience, don't get fobbed off. Sorry if this causes you worries.

Thank you for the response Dyno! I am definitely watching it closely. I see my RD doc in 10 days and plan to discuss this. I haven't had "itchy" legs but they are restless most of the time.

I have been having problems with low platelet count too but on abatacept not humira. My platelets have dropped to 120 but Rheumy doesn't seem too concerned unless I have surgery. I hope your platelet count sorts itself out soon as your body gets used to the humira.

Thank you, Metal legs. I plan to ask about it at my next appt. My son had an autoimmune blood disease (ITP) a few years back that sent his platelet level down to 6!! He could have bleed to death and was hospitalized for several days. With proper treatment he has been in remission. But it makes me wonder if I might be more susceptible also. Take care and pray for no surgery!

Gosh what a worry for your son. I would mention this at your next appointment, just in case you are more at risk. I hope your son continues to keep well and all the best for you too. Yes fingers crossed no surgery.

Hi shareasmile,

As the other posters have mentioned , do mention your concerns ( and your sons history) at your next appointment. Alternatively you could give your rheumatolgy nurse ( if you have one) a call in the meantime?

Best wishes

Sally
