That sounds so painful. Is the pain coming from under the heel? If so, it could be inflammation of the plantar fascia which is the ligament that runs from the heel bone to the tip of the foot. I've had alot of heel pain in the past and it's been R.A inflammation. Does it feel hot? Try putting ice on it. If the pain is behind the heel it may be inflammation of the achilles tendons. Inflammation can put pressure on the nerves causing shooting pains? . I would advise you to speak to your GP. R.A causes alot of pain in the feet, do you wear orthotic soles, that would help? hope you can get some relief very soon.

Thank you so much for replying , think it's the planter as pain is can from under heel but because I'm walking weirdly got pain in groin and right knee :(( does it never end??? When one part goes it seems to affect everything else. Also on antibiotics for kidney infection and have been told to come off methotrexate as I keep getting infections so fed up with all of this!!!!!!

Oh Clare I really feel for you. You are right about everything else being affected when you can't walk "normally". IT's so frustrating. Coming off metho while you are on antibiotics will have stirred everything up too. I wish they could come up with a DMARD you don't have to stop for infection. Hope the kidney infection clears quickly, drink loads of water. You have every right to feel fed up, hope you can get back on metho really soon, take it easy and best wishes.

Thanks will take it easy as hobbling about so much effort I'm shattered lol :)

HI... same sort of pain that I have and mine was Plantar Fasciitis according to the full body bone scan that I had. I've had it in both feet several times and the first time in the right it lasted about 12mths and the 2nd was 18mths. In the left it was 2yrs and overlapped the right one by about 6 mths so that was hard hobbling on both feet ...lol... I didnt do anything except get some custom made orthotic inner soles for my shoes and eventually it went away after I retired... or should I say has for now :)

Thats good I hope you get some relief. Unfortunately quite a few RAers get Plantar Fasciitis - you can also try the the night braces for it (I only strapped mine) or get a steroid injection with some local anaesthetic in it. I also heard that the thickened fascia can be massaged and broken up by rolling your foot over a bottle of frozen water :( so I tried it for a little while - it didnt work for me long term but its quite soothing when its sore. Good luck with it :)

I have had the same pain for about 3 weeks in both heels .. It is so painful especially as a work as a nurse and stand for the majority of the day !! I referred myself to the physio at work because I have really been struggling to walk but I really don't want to go off sick!! I must admit the physio sessions have helped and they have given me exercises to do . If you can get your GP to refer you to a physiotherapist .. I am hoping it will get easier soon its bad enough coping with RA never mind this on top !! Hope you get some relief soon .. Let us know how you get on x

Thanks I work as a home carer and that involves a lot of walking and its heavy work fortunately I'm off on annual leave just now. Will Deffo see about physio, I know what you mean about going off sick, I've been off loads already this year and it's just another worry on top of everything else!!!! Fortunately I've had loads of great advice from people on here it really does help :))
