Does anyone get weakness in their wrists that comes on all of a sudden and find it difficult to pick up heavy items.
Yes I do! I think it might be Carpal Tunnel brought on by inflammation. Mine comes with these surges of excruciating pain which pass after anything from a few seconds to a few minutes. I've even dropped heavy things occasionally. My wrists can't bear weight much but this type of lightening bolt pain and weakness is only occasional thankfully. Twitchy
Thank you for your reply. Is this because of osteoarthritis or Fibromyalgia as I have both. Wasn't sure which one was causing the problem. Theresa
I do sometimes but lessened since being on dmards,
Yes I have this too. Some days I drop things all the time and others the pain in my wrist and thumb base prevent me doing anything useful with my hands. I also have a very weak grip, which doesn't help . I have been told to wear my hand splint whenever I use my hands for a few months and that if there is no improvement I might benefit from a steroid injection into the joint
Hello! Yes and it sucks pond water the meds have helped quite a bit however there is some weakness. Isn't our disease just lovely? It be never wants to be alone, it's always inviting our joints to the party
Yes I do, very painful on times. I can't even put my seat belt on without pain running through my wrist. Its horrible. I can't lift anything too heavy now as I just drop it xx
As Twitchy has said it could be Carpal Tunnel, though this if advanced is continual not intermittent so maybe the beginnings of it. It's where inflammation is causing pressure on the median nerve in the wrist but tends to also feel like ants are crawling over your arm & numbness in most of the fingers & thumb & pain further up the arm & into the shoulder. I've had CT release & it has left my hand weaker than it was before the op though I've adapted & just have to be careful lifting or holding things. I find that no problem as the op frees the pain & would rather drop the odd thing than have that again! Le Creuset are a no no in our house though my h has insisted on keeping one frying pan so he has to lift that!! My other hand is weak too & the nerve conduction test showed I have CT in it though not bad enough to be operated on at present.
I'd have your Rheumy look at it next time & if he suspects it is will most likely order a nerve conduction test to confirm.
Yes i have it cant even wring a cloth out.I have had my wrist and thumb fused it does help but still got pain and not much grip
It is possible to improve wrist strength and flexibility. I had some sessions with a specialist physio after CT op. I have lists of exercises, hand putty, and a splint to wear for tricky lifting or gardening. Also I found a grip strength exerciser online, the weakest medical grade type. Made by a company called Prohands. Worth a look?
But don't overdo exercising. That's why you need a physio professional. To give you gentle stuff to do.
Yes it's horrible and that's currently happening to me now😰
