Feeling down

I am fed up with feeling low, tired and not bothered about anything. I am taking Hydroxychloroquine 200mg one twice a day. Doctor has given me an antideppresant called Sertraline. Is there anyone on here that has tried it or on it, as feeling unsure of taking it.

Hello. Sorry to hear you're feeling down.

I've Sertraline/Zoloft before at different times throughout my life. I actually was okay with it. The only thing I didn't like about it was it messes was your libido! Other than that it was fine.

Hope you get to feeling better.

I dont know about this anti-depressant but just wanted to say how sorry I am that you're feeling down. My RD has taken a bad turn and I've been very unwell for the past six months. A recent holiday made me feel worse. The best things I find for feeling low are to do with distraction, my friends and just anything that takes my mind off how I feel.

Thanks Cathie, I'm sure like a lot of us we get fed up with pain and tiredness but will think about it and try to make a decision. I will have to start a new hobby and get out more.

I retired about six years ago and started studying and doing art. Things like drawing and painting really help you look at things and even when you're really unwell, you can do something. And it's not too expensive either

Thank you for replying I may start taking them, I'm so indecisive !!!!

I think that indecisiveness itself can be a symptom of depression. I too get very low ( had a few bad bouts even before RD ) but find this has got worse since starting to taper Prednisilone. I have never been able to tolerate any antidepressants, but would have taken them if I could. One thing I do find very helpful, and risk-free, is mindfulness meditation. I only do it for about ten minutes twice a day, but find that it helps me to stay in the moment. You might wonder why one would want to do that when life is so uncomfortable, but if one can disassociate the pain from sadness about what one has lost and fear of the future, then the present is a lot more tolerable. I believe that Mindfulness is even being recommended on the NHS now. One can easily do it on one's own, but a professional introduction is probably a good idea, even online. Depression is wretched ( and I am sure it impacts on one's physical wellness) . I hope the cloud lifts very soon.

Thank you Jora, you sound a positive person which I think I need to be, meditation seems the best route to take. Hopefully I can do that as I really don't fancy more drugs, as I would have to come off them at some point and that would be hard weaning off them. I will have to see what is being offered locally for any professional people that help.

Thank you for replying

Well, I have my moments, but I am certainly not always positive, which is why I had to find something to help me get out of a dark place. And I do know what it's like to be indecisive about everything. And to live on one's own. That can be tough when one is struggling.

I would certainly take anti-depressants if they didn't make me feel so dreadful, physically. I know plenty of people who find them really helpful; it can give them that impetus to help themselves.

I am sure you will make the right decision for you. Jo

Thank you for that info, as I have looked up the side effects, and it put me off straight away, and my Dr told me to take them in the morning? But I will also think about other ways to deal with this low mood I am in.

Not sure, but thank you for your advice, I will keep you all posted.
