Thats what happens to me along with the feeling that all the lids want to do is stay shut. When this happens I just leave them shut until it subsides forever the length of time needed. Depending on how long it is as to whether I actually go to sleep or can still hear all around me.

Ive had ongoing eye issues they can get very dry Its worth speaking to your optician they can put your mind at ease.. but fatigue does weird things to your body..

Yes I get this often - I use eye drops and ointment so it's hard to tell whether it's the RD fatigue or the topical treatments but it is worst first thing in the morning and at night or if I'm really tired. I keep wiping my glasses thinking they must be smudged when they aren't. I think for me it's just the sicca (dry eyes) of secondary Sjogren's.

Hello

I suffer psoriasis/arthritis and my condition causes problems with my eyes. All I can suggest is that you cool your eyes with water and ask the GP to provide drops to give moisture to you eyes and lids.

I have the same problem although I get Psoriasis on my lids and around the eye, skin sheds.

I used to wear contact lenses & always had to take them out by 8ish because my eyes were dry & tired & if I was going out in the evening I would wear my glasses during the day so I was able to wear my lenses in comfort. This was before RD & I'd always put it down to just how my eyes were & I still get it now, especially when having a flare or fatigued, I get blurry vision & it feels like a filmy coating is coating eye. I did notice a marked difference when I was taking hydroxychloroquine, they were more dry & I was more sensitive to light. My Rheumy arranged for me I have regular eye tests at the hospital whilst taking it & nothing abnormal was ever reported thankfully. I no longer wear my glasses or lenses as I find I can manage without them, except for driving & watching TV (I'm short sighted) & had an eye test a couple of weeks ago & my long distance had improved but needed glasses for close work. I had suspected this as I've needed longer arms of late to read! I use the type of viscous comfort drops I used when wearing lenses to ease them if they're particularly bad.

I don't know how long it is since you saw an optician but if it's really concerning you I'd get them checked over.

I use Lumecare Carbomer eye gel. This lubricates the eye for far longer than drops, I find. It was recommended to me by an eye surgeon, to whom I am very grateful. lumecare.co.uk/Dry-Eye-Trea...

Yes I get it from time to time it's horrible my answer is to use Liz Earl eye bright. It's all natural I put the bottle in the fridge infact it lives there. I've taken to using it everyday with cotton pads I soak with eye right then lay down and relax for at least half hour . The difference this makes is amazing try it x

Another vote here for Carbomer eye gel. Whenever my eyes feel hot/blurry these drops really help. I get them on prescription from the GP. x

and another for the Gel, I have Sjogrens as well as RA and my eyes get very dry and tired.

For me it's Hylo Forte intense lubrication preservative free which is easiest for sore hands to apply I find and works really well. At night Lacrilube ointment (also preservative free as my optician recommended).

No its not normal. But there can be a lot of reasons for it. Best get your eyes checked by an optician first, and also make sure you tell your GP about it.

I have literally just come back from e optician! I explained my vision is blurry however when I blink a few times it is much better. He explained this is dry eye. To me I was expecting red itchy eyes! He put in some orange drops and observed. Apparently my tears break up really quickly and evaporate, another form of dry eye. He gave me Hyco San plus drops and said that should sort it out.

On another note, where I just had glasses for reading I now need them for more daily activities. I have noticed a deterioration in my eyes over the last 5 weeks - the same time I started taking MYX and HCQ. Rheumy nurse thinks its only coincidence..... So after a large expense I will have glasses from next week!!!

I would suspect the difference in your eyes is due to hydroxychroroquine as it did with me when I was on it & it's advised your Rheumy makes sure you have at least yearly eye tests whilst on it so I'm surprised your Rheumy nurse considers it coincidence. I used to have them 6 monthly at the hospital opthalmic department. As I said I'm no longer on it but still take methotrexate, had an eye test less than a month ago & prescribed glasses for close work & only needed them for short sightedness since I was in my late teens. My optician didn't consider it age related or natural degeneration & my eyes were otherwise healthy so not sure about the MTX either, that may also have some part to play.

Forgot to add that I also had to have my eyes checked before starting on HCQ.
