Hi everyone,
Just a question, my eyes are very blurry. I have been to the opticians and he said that it is just my age. (I am 45).
Can RA affect your eyes?
Thanks ,
Jane xx

Hi Jane, I to suffer with blurry eyes, had eye tests and everything is fine, I have heard that RA can effect the eyes, I just put it down to that as I've had eye tests yearly for the past 2 years, hope this helps to know you are not alone, it's very annoying though isn't it. Lady B 😊xxx
Did the optician check to see if you have dry eyes? Might also be worth trying another optician....
Hi - this can be dry eye which is associated wit RA. I find that the Optrex spray which you just spray onto closed lids helps a lot.
Yes I have dry eyes and blurry vision that comes and goes, eye drops help a bit. I'm going to try the spray next to see if it's any better.
Hi Jane- my understanding is yes, there are effects on eyes from RA and certainly some of the Ned's have side effects on vision. Worth checking in with the RA team. Cheers Doreen
I go next Monday to hospital to see the nurse specialist. Hopefully they will say I can have Biologics. If not they can shoot me at dawn !!
My silly spence of humour.
Best wishes,

It definitely can. Dry eyes can start with an over production of tears and they can feel hot and blurry. Many artificial tears help, find the one that suits. Very strange to say it's your age. Unless you have small cataracts you don't get blurry vision unless you need new spectacles. Hope this helps, maybe see a different optician x
Hi. I'm 45 & have a blurry right eye at times. My optician said I had a greasy eye and I needed to clean it every night for a week with cooled boiled water. No idea if this has worked yet as I'm on day 2 x
Hi Jane. Perhaps you need a referral to an ophthalmologist who specialises in RA or autoimmune diseases. Opticians are great for general eye care but specialists have more thorough knowledge
I was having a load of problems with very blurry eyes particularly as the day wore on. My optician did dye tests and confirmed that my eyes were just getting far too dry. Solution was easy - he told me to use natural tears type eye drops regularly - before my eyes got to the point where they felt like they needed it, and it has made a huge difference. Before that I wasn't very good about using the drops regularly. Its something easy to try, and you can buy the drops at the chemist for a couple of pounds or less, so definitely worth a try.
That sounds brilliant. I'll give it ago xx
I'm agreeing with earthwitch identical symptoms my vision gets more blurred as day goes on. Using tear drops has helped a lot.
