Swollen eye lid.

Woke up this morning with one swollen itchy eyelid. It isn't conjunctivitis as my eye is not affected, just the lid. It looks as though the lid is filled with fluid (a bit like a blister really). It doesn't hurt just feels warm and very itchy and a bit uncomfortable. I'm due to take my MTX tomorrow and bearing in mind this may be an infection, I'm unsure whether I should take it. Anyone else have/had this?

Hi sorry to hear this ....I am really sorry but I also had this 2 weeks ago and it was horrid also awful headaches and eye sensitivity. Each morning was swollen red itchy and actually started flaking I used calendula cream and went to docs who gave me a cream that's used for eczema. It helped a little but symptoms started in other eye, this weekend I developed a rash on the side of my face and went to the docs again and I have shingles ! I am being treated with anti viral treatment etc , I'm really not sure if the eye thing was maybe shingles and it spread or was a reaction to the biologic Cimzia I am on ....my GP didn't seem to know either ?! The shingles is getting better and I'm not allowed to take Cimzia for another 2 weeks so I'll see what happens, but just wanted to make you aware. Any doubts just go to your GP . I hope you get better soon Claire ..

Thanks Claire, I did wonder about shingles but hopefully it isn't that. I've made an appointment to see an Opthalmologist in the morning so hope he will be able to sort it out. I'm in the Middle East at the moment so don't have a GP. Glad to hear that you are starting to feel better. Clemmie

Possibly blepharitis? Which is a skin infection, rather than the sort of infection that inhabits your whole body, so might not mean stopping other meds maybe? I had it recurring for a while, but then it did just go. But I'm no doc so best to ask one if you can. Hope ophthalmologist can sort you out.

Thanks Helix. I have read up on blepharitis but now the swelling has gone right up into the eye socket so not sure. Will keep you updated. Clemmie

Hi Claire, turns out it's a bacterial infection so I have ointment and drops and hopefully it will have cleared up within 5 days and I can still take MTX. Thanks everyone for your input. Clemmie

Thanks Polly and Claire. I'm hoping it will clear up quickly. I'm having to wear my glasses as I usually wear contact lenses. It's very sunny here, no dust today, so even though I have reactions lenses, they aren't as good as full sunglasses and I find it difficult to be outside. But I'm really not complaining, because I'm feeling ok ( restarted MTX last night after I had to stop a few weeks ago because I became quite unwell) but seem alright so far! So all things considered I'm feeling pretty ok. Hope you are too. Clemmie

I think we've got all your Middle East dust....came over with the rain, and left sandy streaks on all the windows I'd just cleaned. Px
