I missed out by 1 point, so am trying again. Does anyone have any advise on what to focus on in particular to get it with RA?

Has anyone managed to claim PIP?
hi what point did you miss out on , i applied for dla last year but was only given low rate care fo someone choping up veg for me for a meal .mobility walking hs changed from 50mtrs to 20 before in pain i believe .i have done a mock pip test and passed and am now thinking of reapplying for the full wish you luck can you not appeal areyou within time
Ah I thought it was if you could walk 20m at all, I can stagger that far no problem but the very bad pain is there from the start. I applied for DLA a couple of years ago and got turned down despite not being able to cut up veggies, or open tins, or dress myself, or wipe my arse. Not that I'm still bitter about it or anything XX
Hi lizziebrush,
We have a publication on "How to Claim Personal Independence Payment" which has information and guidance on making a PIP claim. You can download it from our website at:

Hi Beverley, thank you so much for the link. I'm in the process of making a new claim and your info is much appreciated.
Kind regards
Duncan
Hi Beverley thank you so much for this info!!
hello Beverley-NRAS, I read your link "guide to claiming PIP" was surprised about the mention of "Gardening" and "housework". On my forms for adult care, these are not classed as " none- essential" only "personal care", like washing, preparing a meal, etc., I have not yet been re-assessed, probably as I am too old now to work? But it may benefit all those who do have to be assessed for this PIP, if they are made aware of the questions and tests before hand. We used to have a disability handbook guide to claiming DVLA, surely, something like this is called for to aid all those vulnerable disabled people. Kind regards. bluetit33
Hi bluetit33,
Thanks for your comments. The mention of gardening and housework refers to what you can spend your PIP on. They are not included in the assessment process. As you rightly said, there is a disability handbook available from Disability Rights UK. This is a guide to benefits and services for all disabled people, their families, carers and advisers. In this period of welfare reform and benefit cuts, keeping up with the new rules is critical. Fully updated for 2014-15, this book provides in-depth, comprehensive guidance on the benefits system and information on other services and resources. It is quite expensive though, although there are concessionary rates available. You can find it by following the link below:

Thank you Beverley-NRAS will get this book, as I live in a disabled village, and all my poor neighbours are having benefits cut, and bedroom tax, and rent allowances stopped, and these are people, who all are wheelchair bound Very worrying. kind regards bluetit33
I know this post is a few months old but I wanted to encourage people to keep trying!
I applied for PIP on the 14th October and had my assessment on the 31st March. After a bit of 'hassling' I received an award for Enhanced rate care & Standard rate mobility on the 16th June. I am 2 points off of Enhanced rate mobility and am currently awaiting mandatory reconsideration as I am, to all intents and purposes, housebound. I'm not holding my breath for an increase but I feel I have to try as I really can't get out and about.
Thats good news, flutterbyski
I have my F2F assessmnet this friday!
Marcus, be very clear with them about how YOU are affected, do not assume that they have 'believed' you, your ability to do each task repeatedly & safely needs to be stressed don't just assume they have any idea what having RA means, even if they 'claim' to be a nurse..... that was my mistake!
My very best wishes are with you
The claiming pip booklet on the NRAS site is good you can either dowmload or get a hard copy. Gives the points for each category to check over puts things in perspective. Good advice in the book from people who know RA
