How to take pred. Time of day, all together or separate

I get 10mg of pred a day until I get embrel. Now I have been having one in morning and one at tea time. But GP wanted me to take them together. So I did yesterday. Felt great til 2am when inflammation kicked in. I'm minded to go back to the original arrangement but I wondered what the group experience is?

Yes it does sort of. That's what I've been told too. But if I space them out there isn't so much pain.

Cathie, I was told to definitely to take them all at once.

Hope this helps.

Hello Cathie! I was also told always to take the whole dose early in the morning. I think it's to minimise withdrawal symptoms once you get to the tapering stage. x

oh dear there seems to be a consensus that I wasn't doing it the right way. But this morning (after I took them all together yesterday) i feel so much worse. I suppose I'd better do it properly now. Yes I've been told about the tapering stage and am going to be able to be quite careful with this.

Hello Cathie

I was never told what to do in terms of how to take the pred and have just figured out what works best for me during my fifteen or so years on it. I have found that splitting the dose is best for me and when on ten mg I take five,at lunchtime and five about eight pm. When on higher doses I have sometimes split into three doses to try to spread out the benefit. I only learned recently that taking first thing is meant to be best something about making the most of the body's natural chemical cycle or some such but dividing the dose definitely works best for me.

Hi Cathie, I am now taking 7.5mg per day, i was told to take them all in the morning as they cover you for 24 hours. Hope you get yours sorted soon.

Thanks everyone. I hope I wont be on this for very long as its not doing blood sugars any good. But its great to have the collective experience! I'm inclined to stick with the long drawn out doses just because I'm really suffering this morning. But thank you for your support.

all at once, in the morning (around 9.00 am usually). If I take it too late then there is no way I am going to sleep. I would wonder if losing its effect is a function of the dose, or of the length of time spent too still in bed. For me, anything less than 15 mg a day isn't going to do anything much, and after four hours of lying still I'm in agony until I get up and move around a bit.

Hi Cathie

I use to take all mine in the morning. That was how I was instructed to take them.

Hope that helps

I was always told to take mine altogether in the morning, as they make me very hyper I wouldn't sleep if I took them any later !!!

Hi Cathie, I was always told to take them in morning, as they can cause sleeplessness? I'm on 7.5mg now, was on 10 mg, hav had flare since Nov :(

Thanks!

Hi Cathie, I take 7.5mg all at once at midday and as everyone says, later than that can have the effect of insomnia and being hyped up. Just watch the sugars closely as Im now an insulin dependent diabetic from taking pred even on this low dose (low for asthma but high to use chronically for RA I was told) but unfortunately every time we try to withdraw from pred I flare up so try not to take it for long. The reason for the midday instead of morning is that it has the greatest affect on sugars about 10-14hrs after u take it so my levels will spike when Im not eating to make them go up even further.
