Urinary leakage and scope

I've had leakage for 3 years when I laugh, cough, or sneeze. So I've been using Estrace cream. Now my dr wants a bladder scope, but I have a large deductible to meet first. Is this necessary? Does anyone have similar problems. Thanks in advance

Hello

If your GP says it is required, is there a way for you to have the procedure on a date suitable ??/

Hi Sagil,

Not quite sure what you mean by a large deductible unless you mean you have to pay out for your treatment first before the insurance pays for it and that probably means you are not in the UK. However, this procedure could initially be done under a local anaesthesia and would be cheaper as it is done on an out patient basis and does not require you to take up bed space. It is purely diagnostic tho and if more treatment was required that would be more expensive as it would typically require a general anaesthetic. Might be worth having the conversation and avoiding a huge unnecessary deductible whilst also putting your mind at rest.

Hope it works out ok for you

ask why they want a bladder scope done, and what the alternative investigations are. Is it a urologist who is asking for the test or a GP? If you haven't seen a urologist, then it might be better value to see one first before you have any expensive investigations.

Hi Sagil

As others have suggested, it is best to discuss this with your doctor. Even if people on here have had a similar experience this will not tell you whether or not it is necessary in your case. As Earthwitch has suggested, speak to them about possible alternative options and get a clear idea of why they are suggesting this procedure.

I really hope they can do something to resolve this for you soon.

Kind regards

Hi

Estrace cream is often used for vaginal atrophy often when women go through menopause. Your symptoms are common of stress incontinence - leakage on coughing, laughing, sneezing etc which can be a pelvic floor weakness - it is fairly common. Often conservative treatments include pelvic floor exercises which can be undertaken by a women's health physiotherapist -if this doesn't help a referral to a gynaecologist may be helpful for further assessment & tests. Sometimes a minor surgical procedure can help. I would suggest looking at bladder and bowel website as there is lots of further info - check it out & they have a helpline as well
