Breathing....................

Good morning everyone, i hope your all as well as you can be with these diseases. Well there is more happening with me, i have had problems with my breathing for a couple of weeks now. As soon as i get on my feet and start walking my breathing becomes laboured. Being asthmatic i put it down to that to start with, but it was getting worse not better so yesterday afternoon i went to the doctors and he gave me a good check over eg; pulse, chest,bp etc. He has said the problem is with my lungs and it is caused by my RA. He has upped my steroids to 30mgs a day for five days and i am to see how i am and if it doesn't help i am to go back to see him. Well that has knocked me for six i can tell you. I have rang my rheumy nurse this morning and i think that stunned her. She has said she will speak to my rheumy consultant tomorrow when he is in clinic and she will ring me back and she is going to check to see when i last had a chest x-ray as well and see if she can find any info for me. So thats me at the moment with the breathing. XXXXXXXXXXX

Hi Sylvi,Sorry to hear you are having breathing troubles. As well as attacking our joints RA causes hidden problems.I went for a CT scan a couple of years ago and they found rheumatoid nodules on my lungs. I was referred to the chest clinic and they have been brilliant at keeping an eye on me.Sometimes when we develop these problems it's good to have the reassurance that they are taken seriously.

I do hope the steroids help.Take care. All best wishes xx

Sorry to hear this news, I hope they can sort you out soon. Is there anymore news on you getting another anti-tnf or maybe this will have to wait now until they sort your chest out. Take care. xxx

Thank you both very much for caring about me to ask. I know it is making me feel pretty rotten. It is hard to walk and it is hard even to sit and breathe. I am afraid to say the least, i just hope the steroids do their job and make me feel better.xx

Hi Sylvie, what a blow for you. It's just one thing after another isn't it?

Really hope you begin to feel better soon, as I know from experience how distressing s.o.b is.

Thinking of you

Hope you are sorted soon. I too am astmatic, and am getting very breathless, told my RA consult, who immediatly made me an appointment to go to the beathing clinic, where I was put into a glass cubicle and had to blow into amouth peice.. consult has never actually told me the result, and I forgot to ask. My RA nursemthinks it prob due to my copd (x smoker). It is frightening though

Hello

If taking DMARD that can affect lungs

I have had breathing tests done before i went into hospital for operations, so i am aware of what will happen if this dose of steroids don't work. i have just been asleep for over an hour and i didn't realise i was that tired as i am sleeping very well. Thank you all for your good wishes.xxxx

Steroids can be marvellous for us asthmatics. I really hope you feel a bit better soon Sylvi. But don't hesitate to phone for help if you feel unwell. I'm sure help with the sleeping will make things a bit better.

Cathie there will be no chance of me leaving it too long. I wouldn't be surprised if i don't get a phone call to go to the rheumy clinic tomorrow. We will see anyway. Thank you .xxx

So sorry you're poorly my lovely. Fingers crossed it's just the asthma refusing to calm down for a while and the steroids will do the trick. I've had to have a couple of courses for errant lungs and like you always just assumed is asthma. Never occurred to me it might be anything to do with RA or similar. Sending healing vibes xx

Oh darn, Sylvie, I am so sorry to hear that! But, the steroids most likely will make a difference. There was someone else on here quite sometime ago that had lung probs from RA. Sounds more and more like RA can attack anywhere!! Hang on in therre sweet lady, have Faith too.

Thank you lovely Loretta.xxx

Sylvia it's not surprising you are so exhausted. I feel tired out for you just reading what you have to cope with. Hang in there and hope another anti-tnf will make a big difference to your RA. Tx

Hi Sylvi, I know it's horrible feeling breathless, I hope that the chest x-ray will give some answers and they might want to do a CT scan of the chest. I actually asked them for that because I felt really breathless and the last chest x-ray (I had 7 last year!) didn't show anything but the CT showed I had bronchiectasis. I can't remember what meds you're on apart from the steroids but could that be contributing to the breathlessness as well. Hope you feel better soon x

Francherry i am on Mtx.sulpha, the usual painkillers. The steroids as well. My bloods are showing my inflammation markers are settled for some reason. This has come out of the blue for me and yesterday i was not very well. I am very tired and exhausted and as soon as i get on my feet i struggle. I won't say i am not scared because i am,BUT i won't let this beat me. One way or another i will battle on. Take care everyone.xxxx

Hi Sylvia thinking of you this RA has a lot to answer for...we take drugs then there's side effects...if we don't take drugs RA can cause more damage effects lungs etc etc..it's a vicious circle....we have a lot to cope with...it is scary...I was very breathless a few weeks ago...couldn't walk far...I felt like I was going to collapse...anyway it was the medication gold injections making me breathless and poorly..i was anaemic too which didn't help...so coming off the gold I'm feeling a lot better now even though .my joints are flaring but I can cope with that...I really hope you find help with your breathing as it is scary..take care and thinking of you sending you hugs Nicola x x x
