2nd dose of methotrexate and feel really ill.

After my second dose of methotrexate I have flu like symptom with a cough and bad headache. I have also noticed I have unexplained bruises on my arms. I took 5mg of folic acid the day before the second course and before that I took omeprazole, which I see in the pamphlet shouldn't be taken. I am a little confused with information and am worried there could be a problem. Will my symptoms clear up soon, I am due to increase to 25mg next week from 20mg and am worried it might get worse.

I would talk to the rheumatology helpline or your doc tomorrow as these don't sound like the " normal "

Side effects of a little nausea xx

This happened to me ! I informed my rhumey nurse and my Dr , I was told to stop them ! I also had like 30 small blisters on the inner part of my hand, I was made an appointment with the consultant within a week and my tablets were changed , the MTX made me feel ill , so please get it checked out , hope you get it sorted especially with christmas coming up - good luck .

Hello

omezparole made me ill. According to the internet they can interact with mtx. Best to ask your rheumatology nurse/gp. Also if it is the mtx the side effects may lessen. Hope you feel better soon x

If you are taking MTX in tablet form, perhaps you would be better on the injections. I took tablets first off and was ok on the lower doses but as soon as it hit double figures, I started to have sickness and blackouts. I didn't have any of that when they switched me to injections. Although I didn't feel brilliant, it was an improvement. Also, I used to take folic acid every day except the day I had MTX. Just before I stopped taking it, I was taking 26mg weekly with a 10mg Leflunomide tablet daily.

Hi there! I started methotrexate a few years ago via my oral use.. I found the tablets horrendous. The side effects vary from person to person.. I for one experienced severe nausea for around 2-3 days after each dose. Extreme head aches, fatigue and a lack of interest in anything. I can't say I've heard of flu-like symptoms, but as I said everybody is different! If you're concerned, phone your local rheumatology advice line. You may find switching to subcutaneous injection change your symptoms. I didn't have as much nausea, and the headaches weren't as bad, however you do still feel crappy - the joys of the drug. As you're only on your second dose, I'd persevere.. The folic acid will get into your system soon enough and that can help cure some of the symptoms. Hope it gets sorted for you :)

Hello all, this is my first time posting on here. I have PsA and am Coeliac, so usually post on GfG, didn't know you were here. Anyway I just wanted to add, I was on Methotrexate for two years and was very ill the whole time, sickness, fatigue, nausea, severe headaches, totally fogged, bruises, plus there was no benefit to PsA, in fact my whole body was in pain, couldn't bear to be touched, it was awful. This is tabs initially then injections. Eventually docs gave in and put me on Leflunomide, have been on that for 2 yrs now and up until recently was ok, but it is active again. The doc decided to put me back on mxt again. Homeopathic dose he said! Ha! So said I would give them a go. Anyway after 4 weeks, all the symptoms have returned and I have stopped taking them. It is almost as if I am allergic to them, I think anyway. Sometimes I feel as if docs think I'm putting it on!

So, it seems they do effect in different ways, I would as others have said speak to your rheumy nurse, but persevere a bit longer, don't they say it can take up to six weeks. Good luck, I hope they work for you.
