I had the horrible injection too but unfortunately it didn't work for me, I'm still suffering some days worse than others in both shoulders, I'll not bother again.

I've had a few injections in my shoulders. Only once it didn't work and I think it was because it was done by an inexperienced registrar. When my rheumatologist does it I always get relief and it seems to settle it down. Think they have to get the right spot. Hope you feel better soon.

If they are injected into the joint then that joint must rest for 24hrs by then you should receive relief .

I have had several of these all giving good results, But beware to many will damage damage the joint which is what happened to me,

I ended up having surgery resurfacing the joint

I hope I haven't put any one off.

I have also had quite a few injections into both shoulder joints and bursa. I find that I'll get more pain for about 24 - 48 hours as a reaction to the steroid but then over about 2 weeks the pain and stiffness settle down remarkably! I haven't had one yet which didn't work for me! Eventually I was referred for an operation which has given me a virtually pain free right shoulder. Now seeing the consultant re left shoulder.

I do hope yours sttles down soon. I know how shoulder pain can interfere with simple every day tasks like showering and getting dressed.

Good luck.

Thanks for you posting here. Helped me to know that what I was experiencing was perhaps a normal reaction to the cortisone shot I received yesterday in both shoulders. Shot didn't hurt at all - although a local anesthetic was given first. Last night, my shoulders felt fine, compared to the type of pain I was experiencing prior; but I did notice that both shoulders had the feeling of a bruise (no bruising coloration though), sort of pressurized also.

Now, roughly 30 hours after shot, both shoulders are very stiff. They don't necessarily hurt, but the stiffness is surprising - enough for me to get online and research others' experiences. Never experienced this sort of stiffness. Read on another site that this is perhaps called "crystal flare" and is experienced by 1:20 people.

I have had one in the shoulder, elbow and bum! In the past. At different times obviously. They were effective quite quickly. But, as above, it must vary. Just hope you get relief soon.

Hello Emma I think it varies. I had one and it didn't worked for me but I hope it does for you :D x

Hello BOB here

Give it a day or so more, it depends where the injection was pushed

All the best

BOB

An orthopaedic consultant injected my shoulder, hurt like hell at time!! It got worse for 48 hours and then slowly started to help my pain, optimum level reached approx. 3 weeks later. Was well worth having done. My latest injection was left wrist, again it took 3 weeks to reduce pain significantly. Lynda x

I've had both shoulders injected with steroids, and the end result is the tendons across my shoulders are now the age of an 80 year old woman, consultant said to me,they have thinned out severely due to those steroid jabs...know we are all different, but in my case direct result of having injections..consultant said, he's a shoulder surgeon, so I have to take his word.......please ask questions when having the injections, I was Not told any if this....:(

I had an injection a week ago Thursday past and amazingly enough it actually started to work in the past two days! Happy about this result b/c it was shoulder & I was in agony!

Steroid injections take 3 - 5 days to work. Initially, your feel better due to the numbing shots, but then you can have soreness and pain for a few days until the injections kick in.

i had the cortisone shot in my shoulder and got immediate relief, but then 3 days later the pain was back. maybe i done to much or, maybe its not just bursa but, rotator cuff damage. anyone else have this experience?

I had a steriod shot two months ago, hurt worse after, didn't work, yesterday I had another shot and the pain is worse, I'm hoping in a few days it will take effect. My shoulder is real tight since the shot.
