My food tastes awful I am on prednisone for vasculiti... - NRAS
My food tastes awful I am on prednisone for vasculitis and my tongue feels awful and numb.
What are the medications are you on? Loss of appetite and food tasting awful is a common side-effect of many of the drugs used in RA. I am on prednisolone too but have never encountered this side-effect. However we are all different so you may just be unlucky.
There may be a silver lining however. Prednisolone tends to enhance your appetite so that you end up putting on weight. I'm guessing that if the food tastes awful your appetite has been suppressed as well? If that's the case you may at least escape the weight gain!
hi mflem13 I have gpa/wg and am pred too. My sense of taste and smell are both affected. have you mentioned your tongue to your gp? I would ring & ask to speak to them just to be on the safe side or you could ask nhs direct.
If it starts to swell call nhs direct,
If it affects your breathing dial 999.
When I was on Pred, everything, including my cups of tea, tasted salty. I think it affects everyone in different ways though.
YEP! My taste has definitely changed. For whatever reason, everything is salty including ice cold water
@mflem 13. Not sure if this is related to you, but steroids, including prednisone, can cause oral thrush (candida infection in the mouth). This could cause bad taste and numbness.
But more likely than oral thrush, prednisone itself can cause bad taste, which can go away if you thoroughly rinse or brush your tongue.
My side effect is that nearly everything tastes bitter, metallic, and gross. I can also barely register salt. Also, bright red moon face. Not a fan. Also, it has done insane things to my sleep and mood. I hope this colitis nonsense lets go soon. Best of luck to all of you!
i'm on a five day dose of Prednisone (3 days in) and yesterday i got a big shot of Solumedrol (methylprednisolone) for a REALLY bad case of gout. today everything tastes HORRIBLE...weird metallic/chemically after taste. i noticed especially on a hot chocolate this morning...
no thrush, but i know to watch out for it, so i would concur with you and say it might just be a weird side effect of the medication.
