I have been watching The zoo on itv channel tonight. My ears popped open at a section discussing the white rumped vulture. I really love vultures and think they do an invaluable cleaning up job in the wild lol! These birds have declined by 99 per cent in the last ten years in Nepal, the main reason the speaker gave was diclofenac. It is a pain killing drug given to the cows, when the cattle is eventually dies and are eaten by the vultures it is fatal to them.
So London zoo are encouraging farmers to used alternative pain killers , I use diclofenac! Thank goodness I am neither a cow or a vulture!! Just interesting though I noticed , do u like vultures? xxxx

I wasn'r sure if this was a joke from you allanah as i know your sense of humour is very dry.I then thought that i was taken off diclofenic as it was doing nasty things to my stomach so i went with the belief that it wasn't a funny one after all. We don't know what these drugs do to our system do we.xx
Diclofenac made my ankles swell so big I couldn't get my boots on! Xxx
Could Diclofenac be the reason mine never seem to really go down for any length of time! Obviously too much activity on them makes them swell are fare too but I would have thought Diclofenac would have reduced the swelling. You learn something new every day, Tilda, about this RA madness! Julie xx
No Sylvie, not a joke, at all. these vultures r nearly extinct as their system cannot handle a drug that helps us. It was more irony than comical I thought! The zoo is doing a great job with conservation of animals including white rumped vultures. Long will they continue to look after our planets animals.
Yes vultures are important. Did you know that there's a religion in India called Parsee - gosh not sure at all how its spelt but the derive from Persia. When they die their faith dictates no burning or burial so they have these towers of silence where they lay our the bodies and vultures pick them clean. But in places like Mumbai the pollution and other factors have meant that this is becoming impossible as vultures decline so this symbiotic relationship is now threatened too much. Sorry - a diversion from diclofenac but the poor vultures need protecting - as do bees. Xxx
Yes I madly think these " air burials" are a lovely way to return to the planet lol gosh the hippie coming out again, am a child of the universe.......
Vultures are amazing creatures, I was out in Gambia years ago and had a chance to feed some in the wild, they used to gather ever day at 1 pm near the place we were staying at waiting for the local restaurant to bring them food, I was quite fascinated that they would come every day knowing they were going to be fed. Who said animals are dumd. Hope every one has a great pain free day and roll on summer. xx
I would luv to go there bu I keep coming to a block coz is it true you need a yellow fever vaccination. And certificate? But they won't give me it as it's a live vaccine" so it seems to be a blocking point. Did u need one?
I went to Kenya near Mombasa a couple of years ago and you don't need yellow fever to go there. We went on a safari to Tsavo National Park which was fab, Maybe you could try Kenya?
we went to a place called Mnarni near Kilifi on the coast and it was fantastic, we went out cycling with and without a guide and walking in the village and felt really safe. one of bike guides was local and we still keep in touch, he took us to meet his family. the safari was a 2 day one in tsavo east and it was brilliant, saw everything you could ask for except rhino. the problems were on one of the islands which was a long way from where we were. theres a map of the risk areas at apps.who.int/ithmap/.
I love your unwuenchable enthusiasm for rock festivals and world travel Allanah! If you can't go because of live vaccines then perhaps you will have to settle for an afternoon in with the Junglebook - or maybe its the Lion King? One if these has a couple of brilliant vultures can anyone recall which?
Jungle book!! We're they not based on the Beatles? John Paul ringo and George the vultures!
No would rather do a real safari, and Macchu piccu on the list , do you think I could o 7 days trailing through rain forest and up the mountain or maybe just go on the tourist train? Lol
But Jim might have found a way round it for me!
Hmm I would love to do Macau Piccu too by rainforest would be too full of humidity and dodgy carnivorous insects for me. I could get to Peru and give be your back packer. I'm fairly fit and RA free just now but we would have to avoid MTX days and Wednesdays hangover days when I'm good for nothing. I'll settle for Junglebook vultures I think - too wimpy for Ghana by a long way and the movie versions sing - yes it was the Beatles you are right. Would say hope Jim fixes it for you but that's no longer appropriate of course. Tilda xx
Done safaris in south africa and seen vultures there, not sure what sort they were. You could go there Allanah as you wouldnt even need malaria tabs if your on plaquinal like me. See RA does have its benifits.lol. Not sure about machu picture tho. Mate of mine went and looks a lot of climbing in a boring landscape. And he had a heart attack when he got home!

Anyway I use the iPad and the predictive text is a nuisance, u have to check what u write cos it changes it....a lot. Enjoy, I couldn't live without mine now.
Also I saw a great animal thing last year where I went a long way to see rare animals , I saw ....the pandas at Edinburgh zoo lol ( might be three this year??)
Sorry.seem to have posted that 3 times now! On my new iPad and still trying to figure out how it works! Waiting for grandchildren to visit to give me lessons. Lol
Thank you, Allanah, I will find out how to post some bee prints I did! May be a little while till I figure it out! Also have to fire up the laptop to do this. Hope you are well. Trying to keep in touch via little messages but always reading to see how everyone is. xx
I'm one finger typing so I rest the others!!! Hope you have benefitted from the rest, Allanah? I did overdo it last week. Whitesnake gig and an NRAS meeting. Two evenings out in a week a bit ambitious at the mo. Both I didn't want to miss!! x
