Rosin01, Well I finally get what you mean about not using coffee to compensate for nicotine while you quit. I had a kind of coffee fit on the weekend. I had so much writing to do and just felt I couldn't do it without smoking so I drank strong coffee all day and into the night. And every coffee I drank I had stronger cravings and felt sick. I ended up sitting at my computer shaking and unable to write a thing at 2 am. I had to go to bed and get up at 4:30 am to finish my work. Anyway since that horrible experience I have cut waay back and I am drinking lots of water. I feel so much better and my actual smoking cravings are very few. I think I may have been confusing anxiety from drinking lots of coffee for smoke cravings----what a maroon! The good news is I'm really firm in my quit. I have only two weeks left on the patch, And here on the island of Newfoundland the sun actually came out today and the freezing snow-rain has stopped. Good luck to everyone on your quitting. I am posting this in case someone else out there is a stubborn know-it-all like me and is drinking too much coffee to compensate for not smoking ,and thinking their horrible anxious feelings are cravings.

The caffeine affects non smokers more. But also it’s the addict in us liking the rush, just don’t get it with ginger tea. Glad you got through it Kat, that caffeine overdose thing is nasty

If you have really bad cravings take magnesium, not only does it ease tension but it eases cravings too.
