Evening guys!!! Been CT for around 11 days or so now. All is good and I'm not really craving at all and things are getting better and better. On the flip side I have been feeling very down since I gave up the patch. It fluctuates daily and even sometimes by the minute!!! I just wondered had anyone else experienced this either by CT at the beginning or getting rid of the NRT. There's no way on this earth I'm putting a patch on again just to cure this but if I know it's something that passes then I can happily try and just put up with it for a bit xx

I didn't exactly feel down, Dolores (though I did when I first quit- never felt so churny and panicky in my life- most horrid and most unlike me) but I did feel 'twitchy' for a while when I decided to ditch the patches and go CT. That's the only way I can put it really- not craving exactly, but sort of jumpy and slightly hyper all the time. It passed within a week or so and hopefully your 'down' feelings wll pass in the same sort of time frame.

Thanks Skiddaw. It's weird....one minute I'm my normal self and the next I'm just feeling pure despair and the cycle goes like this on and on! It's driving me nutty. I figured it must be the complete absence of nicotine?!! X

Thanks Jenny! It feels more like depression but it fluctuates....most bizarre! X

I do think its mind games that will lift if you give it some time. How did you feel in your 1st week of stopping fags? is it similar?

I was more irritated in the first week and missed them. Now I don't miss them and love being free. Seems a bit of a coincidence x

I would make a note a/m and p/m how you are feeling over the next 3 days. I would also plan 3 days of keeping as busy as poss and plan some small rewards and see how you are after 3 days. Try not to allow yourself to develop a fear of how you are feeling and just monitor it. I am pretty sure this will pass x

Thank you all. Will definetely give it another month or so to try and settle. In the meantime I'll keep a little note. x

Hi Dolores

I quit smoking Cold Turkey at New Year, and have had mood swings right from the start.....so one moment I am feeling on top of the world, the next I am sobbing my heart out. It's annoying but I have coped by kind of going with the flow so if I feel like laughing, I laugh, and if I feel like crying I have a good weep.....which, since I know I have nothing really to cry about, often ends up with me laughing :p

Good luck

x

Also you could try and build some relaxation into your day. I find just slowing down my breathing and focusing on the air I'm breathing in and out helps. Little steps, little bit of time and keeping a proper note of how you feel each day is a nice factual way of reminding yourself of whether you are actually feeling down every day or whether is nasty nic trying to trick you. Your own notes cant lie xx

CT and downer days especially near the start are not uncommon I had a few of them as well, for no reason what so ever I'd be on a depressed downer and moody on all levels, they never really lasted that long more like a couple of hours just that they came for no reason and that was annoying/hard to understand part.

Thanks for all the input. I have a fair few theories now what it could be. A diary will be the best thing to do for the time being. Sometimes it's hard to see what's right in front of you. Cheers xxxxx

Yeah I have noticed mood swings, sometimes for a period, other times can be quite sudden and for a short period of time. I think good diet and exercise are a winner, keeping a constant amount of energy throughout the day. Easier said then done. The more you are aware of this though I think the better equipped you will be to sort them out.
