Sick and tired of being sick and tired through smoking, so I've decided to quit starting tomorrow, cold turkey. I REALLY NEED TO DO THIS!! I can feel that my chest/lungs hurt because of my smoking, but I still want a cigarette...insanity!
Anyway, I really, really want to do this and hope that I can get through with some support and inspiration from you guys :o

If it's inspiration you're after then start reading through the mass of archives on this forum:D There's a 'good post' guide to get you started. Somewhere:rolleyes:
A big welcome from me too Badge. We're all in the same boat here no matter what stage of our quit we've reached. You'll get tons of support and advice from all the lovely people who are members of the forum and you've definitely come to the right place (and made the right decision)
Hope your Day One is going well. Do come back soon to let us know how you're doing.
Well done on your decision to quit Badge, I wish you all the success.
I'm just going to say the same thing as everyone else, understand your addiction and post as often as you need to as this forum is a massive source of support when you need it most. x
Same here. We are here to help you if and when you need it. We were all at Day 1 once. We managed to get to the stages we are at in our quits partly at least thanks to the support of those here.
Wow! Thanks everyone. I'm really chuffed and blown away by your encouragement. Well, it's still "Day 1" (ha, ha) and the temptation to just 'blow-it' is extremely strong. Funny how the thought always begins with an 'Awww..' and then 'just one won't hurt'!! I need to watch out for those 'awwwwwws'.
Well, I will do as you all say and look at some of the previous threads and also to understand my addiction. I never thought about 'understanding' it.

Welcome Badgepup (cool nick, by the way),
Very best of luck with your quit. Hang in there...the first few days are crucial, so do whatever it takes!

It's nearly the end of the day for me and I have not had a cigarette.
UN-FLIPPING-BELIEVABLE! I can't tell you how many 'first days' I've had of giving up smoking over this last year or so.
However, I have eaten two massive bars of chocolate today (which I don't normally do) but I'm trying to take one day at a time, and not berate myself for that. I'm beginning to get the measure of my 'addiction' - and thanks to Steve for posting the link to the various forums, as I read the Gollum one which I really identified with.
Thank you guys for helping me to do a DAY 1 without breaking it - I can hardly believe it.
I shall still need your support as I hunker down for the other days to come. I really want to crack this.......
Don't even think about berating yourself for chocolate, especially on Day 1. In fact, I'd recommend you to sip juice or eat something sweet every now and then to keep your blood sugar from dropping. This way you'll feel much better until nicotine leaves your body (only 2 more days!).
Make sure to post here if you need support. It really helps.
Today should be your Day 2, how goes it? Hey, no man had the rainbow until he had the rain. Sure it is hard, very hard, but you'll get through this, dealing with it day by day. Find what keeps you sane and go for it. None of us had it easy, after all you are trying to kick an addiction, but it does get easier. Just keep the mindset that YOU WANT TO STOP SMOKING. Believe in your strength. Visit this website, this is HOME, we are all in it together.
Thanks for those great words Firefly. Yes, I do want to quit (permanently) and yes, it is tough, but so it has been for all of you, and I am truly finding this the best place to be. I've had so many 'first days' of quitting that have gone to pot (not literally, ha, ha!)...and I can hardly believe, that yes, I am at the end of Day 2.
It's great that the threads are organised in terms of your first days individually. I'm going to use this facility for all it has to offer and so far, it's saved my bacon (oh, and my lungs!).
I was speaking to a friend tonight and ALL I could think about during the conversation was how much I wanted a fag after we would finish the conversation...sooooo distracting! But as you say, it will get better and after all, it is an addiction.
Mate, you've taken the first enormous steps to freedom. I'm so pleased for you. Yes, there will be difficult times ahead but you have the mental attitude and strength to tackle any obstacles in the path you encounter I am sure.
By the time you read this you'll be on Day Three and will have nearly half a week under you belt.
I have made the decision to quit today when I woke up. Feeling scared about what is to come (weight gain, mood swings, cravings etc), but feeling quietly hopeful of other things to come (healthier, more energy, better skin, feel cleaner etc)
I am a grown woman and feel a bit stupid to admit I'm scared. Also feeling a little emotional about it.
Goodness me, it has only been 2 hours since I decided to quit

Camellia
Hello Camellia and welcome. We can probably all empathise with the fear and emotional feelings, after all we are quitting something that we've "relied" on for years. Be strong and arm yourself with lots of distractions, take it one minute at a time if you have to and try not to focus too much on the bad bits but embrace the good bits. Good luck and keep us posted
I should start your own thread if I were you. You'll be more visible and get more replies.
It's not an easy thing as most of us here will attest to, but it is possible and it gets less and less difficult as time passes. We'll all be here to hold your hand and help whenever needed so keep reading, keep posting and stay with us.
Well done on starting your journey so positively! One small step, but one giant leap into the future.
Appreciate your question - well I'm Day 8 (dah! dah! daaaaaaaah!) and am going to post in the 'Week 2' or which ever is relevant section. Unbereeeevable!!!
