Not up to date at all , but all my luck too, Sian xxx
Hi Becky, Sian is a carer and has to work with really heavy smokers (holding their cigs for them). She has got another 10 hours of it today but is amazingly strong and is hanging in there and doing brilliantly.
Good luck Sian for another hard day.xxx
Your mental strength is amazing Sian, hope your day is ok
OMG That is mental strength. Go Sian xxx
Thinking of you and sending you positive thoughts. Big hug sian, xo
Good Luck Sian,
Wow 10 hours of holding cigarettes for someone else to smoke must really test your strength.
Didn't realise this would have been in a carer's job role to be honest, doesn't sound very caring
Stay strong Sian.
Love May x
DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THIS ONE!!:mad::mad:
How's it been Sian? X
im really choked
Ive just got sat down and I can't believe everybody been wishing me luck, thank you so much I feel honoured thanks.
Yes today has been ok, cravings bearable and Im still smoke free
Thanks for all your thoughts and wishes , I'm a very lucky person
Well done Sian, you are awesome.
with Greg on this one!!!!
DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THIS ONE!!:mad::mad:
Yes, I agree!! Its a hard enough journey without having to hold them................... Is that in your JD, or are you just generally a very kind hearted person!
Wow Sian...that..is..some..going!!!!:eek: I couldn't do it, it would be the undoing of me I think.
It's so unfair that you have to do that I thought it was illegal to smoke in the work place to the point that you can't smoke in your own home if you have workmen present..doesn't that apply for you too?
Big hugs and well done you for sticking with it under such testing circumstances xx
Oh Bugger!
I found this today.
There is an idea in it that matches smoking clients with smoking carers and maybe this can't be done if you are self employed Sian, but what you are subjecting yourself to must be making it five times as hard........
........and we all know it's hard enough already!
Health and Safety Guidelines
for home care workers
Unison.org.uk
A total ban on smoking in almost every enclosed
public place and workplace in England will come into
force in the summer of 2007.
However, the exemptions include premises where a person has
their home or is living permanently or temporarily
which means that social care workers may continue
to be exposed to passive smoking while they are in a
client’s home or other residential accommodation.
This is not easy to resolve due to the conflict of one
individuals right to take part in a legal activity in their
home and another’s right not to be exposed to
passive smoking. The situation may be all the more
difficult to resolve where a client or patient is suffering
from some form of psychological illness or dementia,
and therefore less likely to reach a compromise.
There is at present no HSE guidance on this point.
One solution proposed in the past was for the
employer to try to match employees who smoke with
smoking clients, or to those parts of residential
accommodation where the residents are entitled to
smoke. However, whilst this may protect a nonsmoker,
it does still mean that an employer is
exposing their staff who smoke to even higher levels
of tobacco smoke.
A more satisfactory approach, which has been
adopted by some employers is to ask the service user
not to smoke for one hour before a visit, nor during
the visit, and allowing the worker to ventilate the
rooms they work in by opening the windows. It’s not a
perfect solution and there may still be some exposure
from residual smoke, however it’s a compromise
which recognises that an individual should be allowed
to take part in legal activity in their own home and
respect the health of a visiting worker.
Could you discuss it with your client Sian if you are self employed?
Sorry if you think I am prying into business that is none of my concern and if you want me to back off just let me know chuck.
It just upsets me so much!
Hope you enjoy a nicer, easier week this week

Thanks Greg, but I'm employed and have been with this client for 7yrs so can't leave them now
If this was a newish client then yes possibly I could but after so long how can I let them down now:confused:
So just have to plod on trying to beat the craves and being a good carer at the same time, I know that the no-smoking rule applies to most but not in my job and yes the reasons I was sent in to start with was because I smoked, so it's not fair on them that now I've stopped I have to change....
I'm still here so let's keep plodding and hope the cravings go soon
My word!
Once again Sian you amaze us with your strength and compassion!
I can totally see you don't want to let your client down and you should be commended for that....but by 'eck it must be hard!
Think we need a whip round for that bio suit!
I'll say no more on the subject then, mum's the word
