So this is what day 2 looks like?

I made it to day 2!!! I am really proud of myself this time. In my previous attempts I never took the milestones. I was always thinking about forever. Now I'm just taking it step by step and finding it works.

Last night was really bad. I had a few moments where I could have easily caved. But I insisted I get through it. My other half even offered to smoke in the kitchen of his own house. But I thought it would be best to bite the bullet and suffer through. To my surprise I did manage to get through it.

I am celebrating the achievement and noting it as a milestone. This morning has also been harder than yesterday but I really do believe that with a little bit of willpower, and continued use of Champix, I will get through this. Bring on the rest of the day and the challenges it has!!!

My own way of thinking is that there will come a time sooner or later that I will be in the company of smokers. Better to get it over and done with sooner rather than later and make it one less hurdle to overcome. I like to know that I have got over a hurdle at least once then my brain knows that I can get through it. One thing you could do is have parts of the apartment as smoke free areas. I'm not sure of the layout but, for example, your partner could go to the kitchen or the bathroom when he wants a smoke. You will find your own way. I'm worried myself what it's going to be like in a week or so when I really can't stand the smell of it. My temper is bad at the best of times lol.

I'll be more than happy to give whatever advice I can. Best thing I can say at the moment is don't start to worry about it. If you worry too much about it you will more than likely fail before you start. Certainly plan for it but as much as possible don't panic about it.

You will be fine come Sunday. I have faith in you :D

  • lol thank you, yes im trying not to worry to much but like you i need a plan in my head so when im faced with it my brain is able to say " oh yeah i know what do in this situation ) apart from removing glasses and throwing them at him of course! im sure it will be grand! did you get any side effects on Champix ? i have not had any and im like WTF is this normal from what im reading!

    :D:D

  • A bit of nausea and have been feeling really tired. Have also been a little bit gassy. But I have found that if I take my tablet with a hot drink then I really don't feel bad at all. I think with Champix it's like any other medication - different people will get different levels of side effects.

The main thing to be aware of is that it's not a miracle drug and you will still need willpower. It does make the cravings manageable tho.

  • Well done to you both for quitting :)

afew people on here live with smokers and have managed to stay smoke free in my case it helped as whenever my sister who i was sharing a house with at the time light up a ciggie it used to make me feel sick and hated the smell even more

perhaps smoking in just one room for afew days may help you so at least your not watching them smoking in front of you and you dont have to put up with the inital smell

everyone has there own way of coping with being round smokers you just have to find yours

    regards

I just came back from a visit to the nurse to see how i got on... was rather an amusing expereince, first of she monitored my carbon monxocide levels and last week it was 47 ( shocking i know ) and this week... jesus it went to 99 and the alrams started going of on the machine lol i went white as a sheet, she did, i pulled that tube out so fast and yelped " OMG am I going to die"

  • Anyone find they are getting chest pains feels like heartburn ?

  • Anyone find they are getting chest pains feels like heartburn ?

I had heartburn yesterday. From what I've read some discomfort is to be expected. Your body is repairing years of damage and it won't happen overnight. Just stick with the quit and you'll get through it. I found drinking lots of water helped me so why not give that a try?

  • Cheers Mark :) I dont know if this will help anyone but I was talking to a lady at work yesterday who does hypnotherapy . She told me to take several deep breaths and then repeat " I am an ex smoker " 8 or 9 times before going to sleep at night. Apparently over a few days it will start to reprogramme the

mind and make quitting slightly easier.

  • EEEEEEEEEk I nearly forgot she was very clear as to which words to use. You cannot use words like I dont smoke because your subconscious mind ignores all negative words so what would be remembered is " I smoke " (not good ).

Also whatever you use has to be in the present so " I want to be an ex smoker" will not work because thats anytime in the future. Hope it helps I am going to give it a try, costs nothing so nothing to lose.

  • Excellent Tip Barrie, will show to do that also :-)

  • I get sharp shooting pains in my chest which i never had when i smoked so Im presuming it must be a good thing in a wierd way. Well done for this first few days, it is by far the hardest. At the 2 month mark in 2 days and its suprisingly easy now. Went to Turkey with 7 friends (all smokers) last week and still wasnt really tempted at all.
