Well done Karri, it sounds like you are off to a good start and I am sure that with the help of the forum you will now manage to stay smoke free, it only takes a minute to smoke a cig but a lifetime to feel better for being a quitter, eeek that sounds as if I am trying to be philosophical doesn’t it but you know me better than that, I only wish I could here is a big one just for you.
Being as you have had so many short lived quits maybe you need to take a step back. Really get yourself in the zone. Read, re read. Really get your self motivated. I know how hard it is, truly I do. I am trying to get myself back in the right frame of mind for a quit. Stopping for a day or two continoulsy says to me you are not in the right place for it yet, hence the step back & evaluate.
It will happen for you as it will me but sometimes quitting for the sake of quitting (ie your heart is not in it) is not the right time.
It doesn't matter how many times I fail as long as I keep trying to get there. Determination wins in the end.................I hope
I totally agree with you. What I am trying to say is you have had so many 1,2 day quits which says to me , from experience, you are not in the right place for a quit. That is why I say take a step back for a few days, week, whatever till you feel right about it. From expereince i know if I am in the right frame of mind a quit has the best chance. If I am not I will fail day 1, 2 or in a week. You can just feel it in yourself.
I didn't have more than 2 puffs but it had been in the garden ashtray for about a week
I was quite ashamed I would even do something like that
Once I quit for about 3 days, I had thrown all the cigarette buts- it was a whole container full - in a bag and into the trash..... third night of that failed quit, went to the trash to find that bag and smoked I don't know how many of those buts... We've all done dumb things....
Not at all Karri. What I have learnt is that unless your head is in the right place a quit can be a complete non starter. For me those first few days, weeks are the strongest as far as will power is concerned. I know in my heart that a particular quit is going to be a good one or not.
The same to you Karri but for me luck has nothing to do with a quit. Knowledge, determination, willpower, education and strength are the things needed in abundance.
Karri, you just have to do whatever feels right for you. One day (maybe today!!) something will click for you and you'll get there. That psychological demon is by far the hardest one to beat, and it can take time - I think this must be my 10th quit, and I'm not sure I've beaten it yet!
If you need a few days to think about things, take them, If you don't, don't!! And remember what we talked about - sometimes it just takes a definite decision!
Wishing you every success - I really believe that you can do it!
