Facing the dreaded pub...

Ok day 4... all been pretty good and have managed a nice pub lunch with wine today and everything was still good.

Out tonight for a birthday, this is my normal stumbling block so will be working on fighting that trigger tonight.

See you on day 5 or day 1 tomorrow lol

Hi Mixxy,

All the very best for tonight, I sincerely hope we see you on day 5 tomorrow NOT day 1. In previous quit's I've avoided situations where I knew I'd be tempted but decided not to this time, I have to face these triggers be it now or in a few weeks time anyway....so I decide to face them now! Being with my sister has always been hard as we were the only puffers left in the family and she gave up a day before me however I'm seeing her tonight and intend on having way too much alcohol....hey it may even help with the insomnia!

Anyway, keep strong and you can do it!

Jane

Off to the pub

Just leaving work and setting off to the pub for my usual Friday get together. I stopped drinking nearly a year ago so I'll just have my usual diet pepsi and food and hopefully not be tempted to have one of those delicious, lovely fags, hehehehe :eek::eek:

Same again on Saturday night so it will be torture for the next couple of days. Infact I think I am better off at work - at least there's no temptation.

Day 7 is Sunday so hopefully on Monday I'll be posting in week 2 rather than day 1 again (jeez, how many times have I been there before )

Evening all, choose not to smoke and if drinking makes you choose to smoke then don’t drink, I know that’s not easy but it does make the quit so much more attainable.

We have to look at the triggers when we quit and I and many others stopped drinking when we first quit but now can go for a drink and not bother about smoking.

I hope you all have a super weekend and come back Monday still fresh and smoke free.

Carry something in your pocket that reminds you why you are quitting and look at it every time you get the urge, to smoke that is :D

I'm with jamanjie. I know that if I went to the pub and got a bit drunk, I'd not care and just light up. Hopefuly when the worst of the craves are over I'll be able to overcome that trigger. Don't want to stay out of pubs all my life!!

I'm avoiding nights out for a while thou.

Hope you all carry on with your quits, and are back on Monday still smoke free. :)

I bet they are all down the pub by now, but I do hope they don’t succumb to the Nicco Demons, I had lunch out and 2 glasses of wine and to be honest I didn’t consider a cig so it does eventually wear off for all of us.

You are doing the right thing I reckon by stopping drinking till you can control your craves.

Thanks jamangie. On the bright side between not drinking and not smoking I'm saving a fortune!!

There you go then and you will be feeling healthier very soon I promise, no cough or wheeze if you ever had them LOL have you always lived in New York and are cigs very exspensive there or did you roll your own ???

I live in Scotland actualy. New York is just a holiday destination I love to visit, if I have the money (another incentive to stop smoking).

Been a few years since I've been, but cigs were cheaper than here if I remember, thou I had my duty frees.

I sometimes rolled my own, it was a bit cheaper. But always ended up back on my brand again. When I think about it, how desperate and stupid does all this sound?

Having to get my own brand Duty Frees and fly half way round the world with them. Rolled my own but go back to my 'own' brand. Can't afford to do what I want because I spend too much money on those stupid things. What a crazy habit.

Tonight went well. Sat outside the pub with the smokers and didn't feel the urge to have one so now I just need to get Saturday night out of the way. Roll on week 2!!!

Me too, still smoke free despite a heavy night with my sister, but we were lushes at home so didn't involve the pub!

Good luck to you all!

Jane

Mixxy - you still with us?

Well done both of you. I can't trust myself yet.

I do have a plan that might work thou. My nearest 24 hour garage is miles away and I don't have a car at the moment.

So when it gets to 10pm my local shops shut. If I bought a few tins just before the shops shut then it would be hard for me to get any fags after that time.

Surely even if I had the urge when I was drinking those tins I'd just go to my bed, rather than walk miles for a cig??

I might wait till a rainy night to be doubly sure. :D

Haha sounds like a plan New Yorker - definately wait for a rainy night!!!

The problem is, if you are anything like me, you'll walk 50 miles just to get a whiff of a ciggie when the craving hits you. So if you start drinking, that 24 garage will be in the back of your mind all night (getting nearer and nearer the more you let the craving take a hold).

Maybe better to wait until 10pm and then order a take-out instead of beer, but then again, who am I to advise anyone :(

Yep, I'm exactly the same.

I wont be having a drink this weekend, it's just too soon for me.

But that could be a plan when I feel a bit better about my cravings. Hopefuly I'll know myself when I'm strong enough to have a good drink.
