Hi Azz

not sure about giant breaths i went through a stage early on in my quit of breathing in sharply, you know almost like sniffing up when you have a cold (sorry a gross explanation i know :( ) used to do this lots of time during the day especially if i was relaxing i would just involuntarily do it ...it went after about a couple of months was worried at first but the doctor checked me over and found nothing as i said it passe. Perhaps you should have a quick chat with your Doc just to relax your mind and ease any worries ..i am sure it wont be anything other than your lungs enjoying the fresh air. :)

Hi Azz it sounds like the most common symptom of anxiety and when we smoke we actually take far to many deep breaths when we inhale and it is not needed when we quit but we have to retrain our breathing after the quit, even if you dont or cant do it yourself your body will eventually click back into a nice steady breathing pattern again after about 12 weeks.

Do you find yourself being unable to get the deep breath so yawning instead??? please dont worry but when you see doc or smoking nurse ask the question and dont worry about bothering them its a big effort to quit and you need to feel relaxed so any worries will make it harder to achieve quit so you need to know its nothing and have your mind set to rest ok, I hope this helps best of luck in you in your quit.

Use this forum as much as you can it will be a great help.

Hi Azz,

I used to always do that - and end up doing a fake yawn to get enough oxygen in. I hadn't really thought about it until now but I suppose I stopped doing it when I stopped smoking and really was getting more oxygen in!

Is it an anxiety thing? I used to get almost panicy if I couldn't yawn!

Hope you're ok

Hi,

I do the deep breathing this as well. Every so often I feel like I am missing something (I guess it's the best way to describe it) & find myself taking huge breathes in. Seems to help & the feeling passes. It's an involuntry thing, don't even realise I am doing it sometimes.

its so reassuring to hear everyones experiences - i dont think its anything to worry about, its not distressing in any way, its actually quite satisfying, i dont think i could take in that much oxygen before! its like breathing from my belly ....

Thanks KitKat - not being alone is the greatest gift of this forum, along with fighting the fear.

I think thats the hardest thing about quitting for me so far, the fear of all those little moments and symptoms..... and getting over each one in turn, and knowing you arent alone, and that what you're going through isnt weird, or worse than anyone else.

one whole calendar month tomorrow! :)
