Well done on 42 days and for sticking with the patches that long. I always intended doing the full course myself, but just got so sick of putting them on everyday, itching like crazy for 1/2 hour and being left covered in red blotches. I ended up doing 2 weeks step 1, 1 week step 2, and I think 4 days on step 3 before giving them up.
I can't say I really noticed any big changes with the step downs, maybe just a couple of odd dreams again, but I see those as a bonus.
I still feel a little "on edge" and having a few more cravings than usual but I suppose it is to be expected when you drop down in patch strength. It is all doable though. I'm really trying to contain my appetite, I seem to finish one meal and then am looking forward to the next.
I step down next week. Last time I quit I just felt a bit woozy for a couple of days. Took me a while to realise it was because of that though. I stopped using the patches early last time but gonna run the course this time.
So are you on dinner/tea allready today then :rolleyes:

G xx
I've had my dinner, a sandwich, one tomato and a spoonful of coleslaw, could have ate it twice though. I'm looking forward to my tea now, spaghetti bolognese. I am practically drooling at the thought of a pastie, cornish, cheese and onion, not bothered which.

LOL, all I have had is a pitta bread with cottage cheese in
Appetite not all it should be at the moment, even a pastie is not doing it for me although a cheese & onion one might win me over
Hey wendyann, congrats on yet another day further on....
Just read the orignal post and the "I'll just have a cig before I do that" comment. They're getting fewer and further between for me now, but that's just what I catch myself doing now and again. Just find myself gettin up to go smoke before releasing I don't do that anymore.
I do still find it hard at times. I think the worst time is when I first wake up in a morning and think I'll just go and have a coffee and a cigarette. When I remember I've stopped smoking I will admit my stomach sinks. I'm waiting for the day when I think, whopee.
I'm still forging ahead though, proud to say not even had a little puff since I stopped.
Wendy-Ann, I found your post today and it'e been really inspiring, so thank-you for this
I'm on day 30 with patches and still on 21mg and can't decide when to step down to the 14's as the last couple of days have been a bit of a mare in all honesty and I'm not ready yet - what would you recommend?

Hi Vicstar
I dropped down from the 21 mg to the 14mg after 42 days. It says on the box to use the 21mg for 6 weeks, the 14mg for 2 weeks and then the 7mg for 2 weeks. I don't know if I was ready or not when I dropped to 14mg, one day I thought I was and the next thought I wasn't so in the end just decided to "do it by the book". It does take a couple of days to adjust to a drop in strength of patches, but all doable. I think if you think you aren't ready yet then if it was me I would do the 42 days on full strength. Hope this helps.

You are probably right kitkat. Nope, I'm not giving in, have come too far to do that. Must admit I have been eating more, I even put a pound on last week.
I dropped down to 7mg today and do I know it. I feel quite jittery, can't settle. I am going to go for a long walk in a minute, that usually helps me feel better.
Its just a little bit of re-adjustment period right now. do that walk, does you good!
good luck, but you'll be just fine.

Thanks Jase for your input. It helps to get tips, advice, certainly from someone who has done the patch route themselves. I did go for my walk and it did help.
Day 58, still smoke free. I have been looking after my two grandchildren since 8am this morning. Grandaughter is 4 and grandson is 8 months, gosh it has been stressful. I really really craved a cig.
hi wendyann xx well done x days going quick now ..i swapped to 7mg around a week ago ...xxx feel the same now ..xx proud of u
Pleased to see you are doing so well kitkat. It felt like a big drop to me.
You are doing brilliantly & I am sure you will soon adjust to the drop in patch strength, grit your teeth & keep smiling that lovely white non smokers smile
I have noticed I'm eating more, probably to compensate for the craves I've been having.
I'm at an afternoon/evening party today, staying over. I don't think there are any smokers going, if so there could only be the odd one or two. I will use my inhalator if necessary.
There was only one old fellow who was smoking at the party. He had to go outside and smoke his roll ups. I felt really sorry for him. I had quite a few drinks, did crave a cig but just had to "suffer" it.
Day 63, still smoke free. In eight days time I will be off the patches, seems too soon to me but am going to try it by the book. I will have been on patches 6 weeks full strength, 2 weeks medium and 2 weeks low. Is this the norm for everyone as I seem to have seen a few people of different time frames? Any help most welcome.
I might not be back on here until monday. I'm off down to kent tomorrow and then to london saturday and sunday, watching my son in the marathon. Monday is my last day on the patches and will be travelling back that day. I am both excited and nervous about next week.
Day 70, still smoke free more by luck than judgement though.
I was in london to see my son run the marathon, first one he has ever done. He was doing great guns, way ahead of his time but a mile and a half from the finish collapsed. We got a call to say he was in the care of St Johns Ambulance. They wanted to send him to hospital, they were so concerned. It took me 25 minutes to get to him and even then he was incoherant. I swear I would have sold my soul for a cigarette then. If I had of had any on me I would have smoked one. He was with them for an hour and a half and against their judgement got back in the race and walked/limped/crawled to the finish and got his medal. I was so proud, it took real guts and courage. He was still not well at the finish. I tried to walk alongside but the crowds were so thick we lost sight of each other, my nerves were in shreds until I met up with him. Thank god I did not have any cigarettes on me, I honestly would have had one and probably more.
This has taught me a valuable lesson. We are vulnerable many weeks after stopping smoking. Nobody was/is more determined than me, but I have my achilles heel, my children.
