Hi all, I'm new to the site but read off line for a while.

Great site!! it's brill to come and talk to people that know what you are going through. I am a 28 year old female.. married mother of 2 boys.

I quit Late Monday night ... (23/3/09) I am using the Allen Carr easyway book to aid me to quit.

Tuesday, I got up and felt brilliant... didn't bother me all day.

Wednesday same again... brilliant.... just the odd pang but nothing to lose my hair over.

Wednesday was same again ( was just amazed by wednesday how quickly my smell and taste has come back )

Thursday... had a bit of a rough 2 hours in the afternoon. My problem is hubby smokes... and by thursday I could have just had one and watching him keep smoking wasn't helping!!! the craving was soooo bad... but I rode it out.. went to bed that night and got up on Friday morning THANKING GOD that I hadn't caved in to the Nicotine monster :(

Friday... made a pact with myself that I am not allowing myself to get in that state again cos there is no need. It's obvious from the way I feel soo fantastic that it's the best thing I could ever have done!!

Saturday... feeling great again... and although I had the odd " thinking where my fags are " ( what's that all about lol when ya haven't smoked for days ?)

Today ( Sunday ) still feeling good. There are a few things that I have noticed since giving up ( dunno if it's same for everyone )...

1st .. when I go to bed, I am quite itchy. It only seems to be at night in bed... like my nerve ending are tingling.

2nd I feel like I am over dosing on oxygen sometimes. It's a very surreal feeling, not un pleasant.. just like I am hyperventilating ( without hyperventilating ) and my head goes fuzzy. It's probably my poor lungs wondering what the hell has hit them after 16 years of being clogged up :o

3rd obviously the fantastic fact that my taste buds are 100% more sensitive, and food never tasted so damn good ... even though my usually madras curry is now a little too hot for me but hell, if that's the worst... so be it.

4th Smell... which in some ways is brilliant ( I could actually tell that a neighbour 5 doors away from me was making toast yesterday morning ) But the dog's guts aint so good at bed time

And that brings me to my own windy problem. Now I have never suffered with wind but by heck.. after giving up I am a wind bag. Now one of my friends has just given up and he says he has been the same wonder if its the oxygen over load :D

Anyway, enough about me hope to chat to some of you lovely people soon.

Welcome, Slinky and what a great job so far..... not everyone is able to maintain such a positive attitude and not feed into the misery of quitting.... my ex did the Allen Carr way..... happy to quit.... NOT ME :D Better now though! Really keep that attitude and things will continue to be easy for you!!!

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

Great post by the way and all the things you mention are normal for us quitters although we don't all get them, some of us get different ones

Good Luck

Hi Slinky,

Welcome to the forum. And congrats on doing so well on your quit. The Allen Carr method worked pretty good for me on an a quit about 15 years ago - stayed off cigs for 3 years. Now using CT, this forum and the wealth of reading, websites etc.

I have also had a fair bit of itchy skin, noticeable at bed time but other times too. Hadn't related it to quitting, thought it might be washing powder or something, but maybe you have a point.

Great stuff on your quit - get your OH to join you if you can!

OMG.. thanks guy's!! you're all great, with your lots in-put I feel this may be a walk in the park :D ( ok maybe not.. don't want to get too complacent )

Anyway tonight at 11:30pm will be 1 full week!!! yippeeeee

So today, I get up as usual and feel great ( always do in the morning, which is the time I thought I would struggle most ). Went shopping with Mum and OH.. who both smoke...and were both puffing away in the car. You know what I COULDN'T HAVE CARED LESS :D but it stinks something awful.

The hubby asked me if I wanted to go out tonight for some tea. OK so I panicked a bit!! It was me, OH, kids and my mum. Now I have told you all that usually between 4pm and 7pm is my tricky time, so I was a little un certain about going. After a little while thinking about it I thought " what the hell... this is not going to change my life!! Fags have dominated me for 15/16 years and they are not doing it any more"

So I decided to go for the meal. We had a lovely time.. then came the time for my hubby to nip out for a " quick fag ".... my mum was good and refrained from going out.. but you know what!!! It didn't bother me in the slightest that he had gone out for a cig. I actually thought " OMG poor guy... he has had to get up from a lovely meal and go outside in the freezing cold, thank god I don't smoke " :D and I sat and enjoyed the fact that I was nice and warm, relaxed and smelled lovely hehehehe.

Oh well enough from me... gonna go and have a look round this brill forum!! speak soon guy's xx TC
